Safety Industry Trainer



Position: Safety Industry Trainer

12 month contract considered annually in accordance with Oklahoma State law.

Current assignment at the District/BIS Offices but will cover training across the District.

Starting Date: When Available after March‘s Board meeting, or by April 1, 2014

Responsible To: Safety Training Coordinator and Director of Business and Industry Services

Salary: Minimum Starting Salary $40,000 annually commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Requirements: An earned bachelor’s degree with a major in Occupational/Industrial Safety or a related discipline is preferred. A combination of education and 2 years of experience in safety related field; & OSHA 500 Certification for General Industry, highly desirable. Experience in food processing is also highly desirable. Must be willing to become certified in the Oklahoma Department of Career Tech’s Business and Industry Services Certification Program within first year of employment. All positions require a criminal history background check and a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening. Section 135, Oklahoma School Code prohibits a school from employing or re-employing anyone who has been convicted of a felony.

Primary Function: Primary responsibilities for this position will be: To provide Safety Training, Program Development and Safety Audits for Companies. To assist and support new and existing/expanding businesses in the development and implementation of the organization’s safety and training policies and programs; to ensure the organization is compliant with health and safety legislation; to reduce or prevent hazards, dangers and accidents in the workplace, environment and general public; and to mitigate losses to people, property, and the environment. Other Skills: Microsoft Word and Excel, email applications and other computer applications preferred; excellent leadership and communication skills especially with business professionals and adult students; proficiency in record keeping, prioritizing, and scheduling; ability to exercise initiative, independent judgment, and discretion in performance of duties; know the importance of confidentiality. Must have knowledge of current state and federal regulations related to workplace safety.

Dependability: Regular attendance following a designated work schedule. Must be able to work extended hours and additional days/evenings, including a flexible schedule as required by position responsibilities. Must be able to attend and participate in meetings/conferences as scheduled within the school district, state and national levels.


Standards: Must be able to perform work indoors in a climate-controlled classroom or private office, or in an outdoor environment with extreme weather conditions; position has high requirement for effective hearing and both near and far vision capability, performing work with moderate to high physical exertion and routine lifting of up to 30 lbs and long periods of standing, climbing and/or working with equipment as applicable to the training requirements of a specific company or organization. Must be able to routinely perform physical work for an average of 4 – 6 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by administration. Must be capable of local travel (as driver) and occasional overnight and extended travel. Must be capable of regular and reliable attendance.
