Estimates Explanation

Hours listed below do not correspond to calendar time.  They are staff hours (also known as man hours).

Additionally, this Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) utilizes the 3-point estimation method from Project Evaluation and Review Techniques (PERT) and project buffer from Critical Chain Project Management (CCPM).  The estimates listed next to each task are the 50% confidence estimates, which means that there is a 50% probability that the corresponding task will be completed within the estimated time.  Time from the buffer will be used for tasks that go over the estimate and time will be added back to the project on tasks that complete in less time than the estimate.

  • Design - 11 hours
    • Research technical solutions - 2 hours
    • Create technical specifications - 8 hours
    • Communicate specifications to technicians - 1 hour

    • Set up repository for project - 0.5 hours
    • Develop employment opportunity content type - 10 hours
    • Develop workflow and security policies - 10 hours
    • Develop scheduled process - 18 hours
    • Alpha testing - 2 hours
    • Code review - 1 hour
  • Deployment - 10.5 hours
    • Package application and deploy to staging environment - 2 hours
    • Develop training documentation - 2 hours
    • Update and test QA checklist - 4.5 hours
    • Inform sponsor to start User Acceptance Testing (UAT) - 0.5 hours
    • Deploy application to production environment - 1.5 hours
  • Project schedule buffer - 32 hours
