Agricultural Education Courses and Standards
The curriculum structure for Agricultural Education in Oklahoma is based on the Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources Career Cluster. This career cluster is described as including “the production, processing, marketing, distribution, financing, and development of agricultural commodities and resources including food, fiber, wood products, natural resources, horticulture, and other plant and animal products/resources.”
The organization and structure of the curriculum in Agricultural Education for Oklahoma organizes the Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources career cluster into seven pathways. Each pathway is comprised of two or more courses in Agricultural Education. These courses are offered in grades 10, 11, and 12. In some cases, students may take courses offered in more than one pathway.
Prior to entering courses offered in the pathways, students may enroll in eighth and/or ninth grade courses. These courses are foundational and motivational. The foundational courses provide considerable exploration and orientation to the pathways in the career cluster. The course in the eighth grade may be offered for a full year, semester, or nine-week course. The course in the ninth grade is a full-year course and is a prerequisite to all upper level courses in the respective pathways.
