6.  A First aid kit is located in the shop on the ___________ wall.

7.  Look through the lesson plans and match the materials on the desk with the hour they apply to.

8.  If a video is in the lesson plan, check and see if you can operate the equipment and the video is at the beginning.  Operating the equipment properly will give you credibility with the students.

9.  Class rules: (For Your Information)

A.  No student is allowed to work in the shop without direct supervision from a qualified school employee.

B.  No Internet usage in the Ag Ed building.

C._______________________________________________________________________

D._______________________________________________________________________

E._______________________________________________________________________

10.  Take the materials for the first class into the classroom and prepare for the students.

Start of class:

1.  I would suggest you stand by the desk or at the podium when the students enter.

2.  Ask them to get their books or curriculum and be seated so you can begin giving instructions for the assignments.

  • Note:  Students could present to you several questions such as:  "I don't have a book", "I don't have a pencil, can I go to my locker?", "I can't find my book", "Do we have to work today?".
  • The lesson plans should identify books and locations.
  • There are extra pencils in the top drawer of the desk.
  • Finally, if a student is to leave your room, you are to call the office to let them know the student is in the hall before they leave your class.  Let the student know you are calling the office to let them know.  Most of the time, a student shouldn't leave the classroom. THEY KNOW THE CLASS RULES!

3.  Once the students are seated and ready, follow the lesson plan as written.  If you wish, you can write the lesson plan on the board so the students know the work is from me.

  • Note:  Remind the students that if they need help, to call upon you.  If you are uncomfortable helping, the roll sheet will identify students in the class that can help other students.

4. Begin work.

  • Note:  Students who are uncooperative should be sent to the office immediately.  Please do not subject yourself to the misery of arguing with a student.  If they are uncooperative, simply send them to the office.  As they go out the door, call the office and let them know that the student is coming and that he/she was uncooperative, argumentative, and disrupting the other students.

  • Note:  As the students finish their work, they can read or work on other subject areas, if they have the work with them.  If they don't, have them read or sit quietly.  If they are disruptive, have them complete the research paper assignment.  Resource materials in the classroom are to be used.

Wrapping up:

1.  5 minutes before class is over (no earlier) ask the students to begin finishing their work, putting up their books, and return to their seats.

2.  Gather the materials and/or assignments and package them together.

3.  The students will leave at the bell.  Wish them a good day.

3.  Make comments about the class on the comment sheet and place the materials back in the Ag Ed Teacher's Office with the comment sheet on top.

4.  Begin again at the top for the next class.

I appreciate the work you do as a substitute and look forward to reading your comments and having you back in the future.

Special Instructions:

1.  Phone calls - Take messages

2.  Visitors - Leave me a note with who visited, what they wanted, and if I need to get back with them.
