OAMCTE Leadership Conference
April 23, 2009 at Moore Norman, S. Penn Campus from 8:00 am - 3:00 pm. OAMCTE (Oklahoma Association of Minorities in Career and Technology Education) Leadership Conference provides a forum that focuses on topics such as: Diversity, Technology Responsibility, Leadership, and Organizational Development, just to name a few. This year's theme, is "Diversity: Journey to Leadership." Through keynote addresses, stimulating sessions and a panel discussion, attendees will explore corporate practices, leadership skills and initiatives to leverage the benefits of diversity. Exhibitors will also display their products, services and resources. (See document for registration info.)
Present and Future Summer Conference
I've had some questions on where and when future summer conferences will be held. Here is the information as we now have it.
2009 - Tuesday, August 4th - Thursday, August 6th, OKC
2010 - Tuesday, August 3rd - Thursday, August 5th, Tulsa
The following years are currently "out to bid" between Tulsa and OKC: (The 2011-2013 dates are tentative until bids are awarded and contracts finalized.)
2011 - Monday, August 1st - Wednesday, August 3rd, TBD
2012 - Wednesday, August 1st - Friday, August 3rd, TBD
2013 - Wednesday, July 31st - Friday, August 2nd, TBD
The "biggie" email with all the details for this year's summer conference will be sent in May.
Scholarship Information for CTE Teaching
Click here for an application for a CareerTech Foundation scholarship. The purpose of these scholarships is to "recruit and retain teaching professionals in the Oklahoma CareerTech System reflective of the diverse populations we serve." In the past, there were two scholarship application forms. This year one application serves all populations. Please share the application form with potential applicants who meet the scholarship criteria.

Arkansas Counseling Association State Conference
Oklahoma counselors have been formally invited to the Arkansas Counseling Association State Conference. This conference is November 11-13, 2009 in Fort Smith. If you are a member of OCA you can register for the conference at the Arkansas Counseling Assoc. member rate. Regional Safe School Summits
The Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services have scheduled 6 regional safe school summits across Oklahoma. These 3 hour sessions, led by professionals, will address the prevention of substance abuse and violence prevention in our communities.
Sessions for youth and adults will meet in the evening (5:00 to 8:00 pm) so no school classroom time is missed. See the attached flyer for details. A light dinner and some freebie items will be provided!

THE ADOLESCENT BRAIN videoconference
Tuesday, April 14th from 1:30 to 3:30 pm, the State Department of Education will offer a statewide, interactive videoconference with presenter, Teresa Ryan, BS, BSN. Mrs. Ryan is the Adolescent Health Coordinator at the Oklahoma State Department of Health.
She will present some of the latest research on brain development, especially during the teen years. Having more information about sections of the brain (when it comes to decision-making, critical thinking, impulse control, etc.) and what teens need from adults during this time will be beneficial to teaching, prevention program planning and intervention strategies.
Questions are welcome and resources for more information will be shared. (Two document are on;line for thisfor this - descriptive flyer and a list of the ten videoconference sites.) If you are planning on attending, call or email the site to reserve a spot.
