December 2008

Retirement from ODCTE:

We will say "best wishes" to Jorja Jacobs, Innovation Support Service Liaison (former career specialist), Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education, who is retiring from her career in education after 37 years of service - 17 of them at ODCTE.   Jorja is well known in the state, especially the northeast part of the state, for her efforts in career development.  Her last day will be January 9, 2009.  Thank you, Jorja for your years of service!
Ability to Benefit Testing - WorkKeys We heard that there was a change in the tests that ACT provides for Ability to Benefit (ATB) testing.  We received confirmation from Caully Kline at ACT that as of Sept. 1, 2008,  because of internal reasons, ACT removed the WorkKeys tests from the approved list of tests for ATB.   ACT will continue to provide COMPASS and CPAt for ATB testing.  [To our knowledge, WorkKeys has not been removed from the federal list, but ACT will not continue to score these. Therefore, using this assessment for ATB purposes is not feasible.]

OKCIS Plans of Study and Career Clusters Your students can now choose from the traditional subjects such as Math, Social Studies, and English and then put in specific course titles or they can choose from Career Clusters and then enter specific course titles.  The course titles are where they can list recommended course sequences for Career Majors.  The students will also be able to choose other subjects such as Internships and Work-site learning.

You can upload the courses for your school as well.  If you want more information on how to do this, there is an excellent training video here.  For more information contact Natalie Gay, 405.743.5573 or Jo Kahn, 405.743.5404
