She won the state overall Outstanding Educator at Summer Conference 2008 and now has won the Region IV Outstanding Educator. Her next step: Bea will travel to ACTE in November to be Region IV's (and our favorite!) candidate for National Outstanding Educator. Good luck, Bea!

Francis Tuttle Girl Tech Program, winner of "Programs and Practices That Work: Preparing Students for Nontraditional Careers" award. Sponsors of this award are the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE), the National Association of State Directors of Career Technical Education Consortium (NASDCTEc), the National Alliance for Partnerships in Equity (NAPE), and the National Women's Law Center (NWLC) The Girltech Program encourages female high school students to enter Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) careers.
National Career Poster and Poetry contest winners:
Oklahoma students won national awards in the K- Adult National Career Development Association (NCDA) Poster and Poetry Contest. The national winners are listed below. Our Oklahoma winners will have their entry displayed at the NCDA Global Conference in Saint Louis, MO, this July. This year's theme was "Inspire Your Career, Develop Your Dreams." The contest is designed to bring attention to the importance of life-long career development and the personal empowerment of all people. OkACTE Guidance Division and the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education sponsored the National Career Development Association Career Poster/Poetry Contest.

It will feature practitioners from the Tech Centers that Work network and how they have implemented different strategies to make deeper connections between the student and the tech center. The EPAS testing window for comprehensive schools for fall 2009 is August 24 through October 9. (This is for Explore and Plan.) ACT will be sending ordering information to the schools before June 1.
WorkForce Oklahoma Partners Conference
On May 20-22, 2009 more than 400 Workforce Partners from across Oklahoma will come together for this three day conference to learn, share best practices and network. The ODCTE has been a partner in the coordination and participation of this conference since its very beginning. Attendees will have access to instructional presentations and useful materials to help them build the future of Workforce Oklahoma. STEM Equity Pipeline Training
It is not too late to enroll in the STEM Equity Pipeline offered in May even if you missed the April's webinar. It has been archived for your convenience. As you know this workshop is designed to help schools eliminate gender disparities and help all student succeed. The Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education and the National Alliance for Partnerships in Equity (NAPE) will host the workshop that will utilize strategically planned activities to improve nontraditional enrollment while assisting the state and local sites in meeting their Carl Perkins Performance Equity Standard.
Is your school producing a diverse workforce? If not, join us in the 5 Step Process in creating a more diverse workforce. The workshop will be conducted in two sessions: the first session, for all participants, will be attending the archived webinar that will assist attendees in utilizing current data. Part two will include face to face workshops on May 27 (in Tulsa) or May 28th (in Norman).

Hugh McCrabb Scholarship:
The McCrabb Scholarship covers one full year's tuition at an Oklahoma CTE institution and any costs involved in testing for and the printing of an Oklahoma Career Readiness Certificate for an adult student either beginning or continuing instruction (not eligible for the 13th year tuition waiver). It is awarded through the generosity of Thinking Media-KeyTrain and honors Hugh McCrabb for his many contributions to the education of and increasing the workplace skills for thousands of Oklahomans. OAMCTE Scholarship
One of the goals of the Oklahoma Association of Minorities in Career and Technology Education (OAMCTE) scholarship program is to provide assistance to deserving minority students who plan to further their education. In so doing, OAMCTE is offering two (2) Renae Washington-Lorine DuBose Memorial Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each. This is one small way of helping to make this dream a reality for individuals who could become positive role models for others.
Applicants for the scholarship must plan to enroll in a full-time program at an Oklahoma Career and Technology Center or as a full time student in an accredited institution of higher learning for the Fall Semester of 2009 and the Spring Semester of 2010. Applications must be postmarked no later than May 29, 2009. The application can be downloaded here.
