Career Poster/Poetry Contest
Students can celebrate their favorite career by entering the K- Adult Career Poster and Poetry Contest. This year's theme is "Celebrating My Career Dreams." The contest is designed to bring attention to the importance of life-long career development and the personal empowerment of all people. State winners win a monetary prize and go on to compete at a national level. Schools send in their 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners for the categories and overall state winners are chosen from that pool. Entries must be postmarked by Dec. 1. Entry forms, as well as details about the contest are available at: http://www.okacteguidance.org/ and look for Career Poster Contest: Celebrating My Career Dreams.
Last Reminder: GuidanceFest 2010
Next week marks the kickoff of GuidanceFest 2010. These workshops are designed with comprehensive school counselors in mind so please encourage your partner schools to come. Each site’s agenda is set up a little differently in order to provide time for the tech centers and their counselors to network. These workshops are free but as always, online registration is needed for accurate counts for refreshments and materials.

On September 23, 2010, the Oklahoma State Board of Education approved a process through which an IEP Team could use a modified proficiency score on one or more of the state assessments for the purposes of a student meeting the ACE Graduation Requirements. This process has been posted on the ACE Resources page as a flowchart with additional explanation. You may find the document by selecting "ACE" from the State Department of Education home page; then selecting "Resources;" and lastly scrolling down to the last document listed under "Testing Resources." -The 4th Annual Mental Health, Prevention and Substance Abuse Conference will bring together local, state and national leaders to discuss current best practices and promising practices in the areas of mental health and substance abuse treatment and recovery, and prevention. This three-day event will provide participants with practical tools they can utilize in their agencies and communities to assist with facilitating prevention, recovery and overall wellness.
