Then: A single mother of two who wanted a better job than the night shift waitress at IHOP. Through the Surgical Technology program at Central Tech, Francine

  • Got a steady job with great benefits before the 10-month course was completed.
  • Learned to adapt to stressful situations frequently found in the operating room.
  • Learned to use current surgical technology and adapt to new technologies.

Now: Francine is the lead tech at Hillcrest Spine-Orthopedic Center and loves her gratifying job.

Then: A student at Stillwater High School who took advantage of the Cooperative Alliance between Meridian and Northern Oklahoma College. Through the Alliance and Meridian’s Network Engineering program, Zac

  • Focused his studies on areas of interest while earning college credit.
  • Obtained background knowledge on network servers, future technology and computer design.
  • Gained a solid vision for his career plans.

Now: Zac graduated from high school, Meridian and NOC simultaneously and is now attending the University of Tulsa.

Then: A single mother of four who needed new skills for a better job to support herself and her children.Through Indian Capital Tech’s FOCUS program, Tracy

  • Learned to follow her interests, not choose a career based on gender.
  • Exercised leadership skills as local SkillsUSA secretary and chair of the Community Service Committee.
  • Positively influenced her children to succeed by going the extra mile to gain an education.

Now: Tracy continues to be a role model to her children by graduating and continuing work toward an associate degree while earning a good salary as an electrical technician.

Then:  A Davis High School student whose initial interest for training in Heat, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration changed to technology-related training. SOTC’s Business Information Technology/Interactive Media program helped Tanner

  • Learn skills using Adobe Creative Suite’s Photoshop, Premier Pro, Audition, and Encore.
  • Operate the 3-point lighting system, green screen, digital video camera, switcher and soundboard.
  • Prepare for competition and win two national titles at the Business Professionals of America National Leadership Conference.

Now:  Tanner is working on a degree in animal science livestock production at Oklahoma State University. He plans to pursue a graphic design internship with the National Swine Registry, a publication that produces the Seedstock EDGE.

Then:  A previously closed brick plant with an enticing 50-year-old clay reserve. When Boral Bricks decided to reopen its Union City plant to provide better services to customers in the Southwest, CVTC’s Training for Industry Program for emerging or expanding businesses helped Boral Bricks

  • Train employees to use forklifts with programmable logic controllers.
  • Provide safety training for employees.
  • Provide CPR and first aid training during construction of the plant.

Now:  Boral plans to produce 100 million king-sized bricks each year.

Then:  A typical teenager at Pawhuska High School who loved food, but never imagined his career would be in the kitchen. TCTC’s Culinary Arts program helped Jeremy

  • Turn his interest in food into pursuing credentials to become a chef.
  • Keep a 4.0 GPA in college and win a two-week trip to Italy to study Italian cuisine.
  • Establish a goal of owning a restaurant.

Now:  Jeremy is continuing his education at the Scottsdale Culinary Institute’s Le Cordon Bleu Program in Arizona.
