Then: A Yukon High School junior evaluated as gifted  with Attention Deficit Disorder- Inattentive Type.  Through the Advanced Biomedical Training Program at CVTC, Joel

  • Worked at his own pace while focusing on his goal to become a dentist.
  • Flourished in the rigorous program with its hands-on, lab-based, technology-driven format.
  • Implemented organizational strategies to stay on task.

Now: Joel plans to apply to the U.S. Naval Academy where he hopes to continue his preparation to become a dentist. Until then, he  will continue perfecting his list of tricks to work with a disorder for which there is no cure.

Then:  A junior at Booker T. Washington High School, who had invented an educational math game at age 13, looking for tips on marketing her product. TTC’s Business Marketing program helped Raynece

  • Understand marketing and how she could use the strategies in her business.
  • Explore career opportunities after high school.
  • Craft a product line, conduct workshops and visit thousands of children across the nation.

Now:  Raynece is looking forward to graduating high school and majoring in marketing at the University of Tulsa.

Then: A freshman expelled for a future-threatening stubborn streak. Claremore Alternative School and the NTC Culinary Arts program helped Nicole

  • Learn leadership, kitchen and organizational skills qualifying her for Johnson & Wales University College of Culinary Arts.
  • Earn a JWU national “Leaders at Work” scholarship, becoming Claremore Alternative School’s first student to receive a college scholarship.
  • Be invited back to her high school, by the same administrators who expelled her, to cater a special event.

Now: At the age of 23, Nicole is kitchen manager for Compass Group USA/Outtakes in Denver. She has served as site manager for Chartwells, a national food service provider of schools, colleges and universities, has met Chef Keegan Gerhard from the Food Network, taught JWU interns, catered for the president of JWU.

Then:  A high school student looking for a head start on his college education. PTC’s Digital Media program and articulation agreement with Northern Oklahoma College helped Shae:

  • Simultaneously graduate from Woodland High School and obtain an associate degree from NOC.
  • Earn placement on three honor rolls, simultaneously: NOC, Woodland High School and Pioneer Technology Center.
  • Learn advanced skills using computer software such as Adobe Photoshop, In Design, Flash and Dreamweaver.

Now:  Shae is an engineering major in Oklahoma State University’s College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology.

Then: A single mother forced to ignore lifetime dream of working in medical field. To support her daughter, Michele worked up the ranks from cashier to manager at a Tulsa grocery store. Once her daughter was raised, Michele enrolled in CTC’s Emergency Medical Technician program and learned

  • Medical terminology, coding and computerized medical invoicing.
  • Procedures to perform advanced life support.
  • Skills to become one of the newest additions of an increasingly rare breed – an ambulance paramedic.

Now: With paramedic training paid for by Emergency Medical Services Authority, Michele is an EMT and happy to be in a career she loves.

Then:  An East Central University student who discovered an interest in dentistry after joining a college dental club. While at ECU, PTC’s Dental Assisting program helped Naseam

  • Get hands-on training in the field of dentistry.
  • Show a competitive advantage when applying for a job with Carl Albert Indian Health Facility in Ada, Okla.
  • Learn a great deal of information, categorically.

Now:  Currently working at Carl Albert with plans of enrolling at the University of Oklahoma to pursue a dentistry career, Naseam says training at PTC prepared him for the workforce.
