Diana Plummer, counselor at Central Technology Center in Sapulpa, won the National ACTE Educator of the Year! The competition for this award is fierce. It is unusual for a Guidance member to win that prestigious award so we are super excited for Diana and OkACTE Guidance Division! Congratulations, Diana-it is an honor well deserved!!
GuidanceFest Wrap Up
GuidanceFest concluded another successful year! Thanks to all of you who attended and encouraged your partner school counselors to attend. We had over 350 counselors attend which was about a 28% increase in attendance from last year. Let us know how we could improve the sessions and look for information for next years GuidanceFest in our Summer Conference packets.
Upcoming Career and Academic Connections Workshops

Trying to fill out IEP transition pages and dont know where to start? Break the transition code by joining the Career and Academic Connections Division CSI team. Learn more about disability employment, IEPs and transition. Discover through training how the Oklahoma Career Information System (OKCIS) can help you break the code.
Workshops will be held at the following locations:
February 12, 2013 - Indian Capital Technology Center in Muskogee
February 14, 2013 - Mid-Del Technology Center in Midwest City
February 22, 2013 - Western Technology Center in Burns Flat
*Military Regional Trainings
There will be five regional workshops across the state that will focus on helping veterans transition into gainful employment and/or post-secondary education/training. Tentative topics will include Transcript Analysis, GI Bill/Apprenticeship, Disability Services, Local Resources and Guidance and Placement Processes. More information will be coming soon. Dates and locations are as follows:

The Family Center on Technology and Disability has published the Family Information Guide to Assistive Technology and Transition Planning in both English and Spanish. The guide includes an overview of transition planning and assistive technology, guidance on how to make a successful transition with assistive technology, information on laws governing accommodations and transition, and a glossary. Oklahoma ABLE Tech and partners operate assistive technology (AT) device demonstration and short-term loan programs to increase accessibility to AT. The assistive technology inventory is available and searchable online at oec.okstate.edu/loan/ Oklahoma ABLE Tech allows individuals to borrow devices for six weeks at no cost.

Soft skills important for college too
For some time there has been an emphasis on the importance of soft skills for those seeking and then progressing in their employment.
