Inside Story Flashcards

This is a website that has unique picture/word flashcards.  What makes these vocabulary flashcards unique is the accompanying pictures and the fact that you can click on a speaker icon for audio of the word. Students (or you) can choose words at four different levels of difficulty : Basic, Easy, Medium and Hard. Students can also choose to hide the definition if they are wanting to quiz themselves. They provide online flashcards and free printable flashcards for offline use. (Other flashcard sets are available for purchase.)

Inside Story Flashcards www.insidestoryflashcards.com/ could be a great resource for ESL students, special education, and/or students wanting to work on vocabulary for college prep assessments.

ACE Graduation Requirements and Eligibility for College Student Financial Aid

Rules for financial aid have changed.  The Regents have developed a document to help explain their changes and financial aid eligibility.

Current state law requires 2012 Oklahoma public high school seniors to meet certain curriculum and testing requirements to graduate from high school.  Students who fail to meet both the curriculum and testing requirements will not graduate from high school.  Failure to graduate from high school will significantly limit a student’s eligibility for both state and federal financial aid for college.

MindSet 2015

Each August since 1998, Beloit College has released the Beloit College Mindset List, providing a look at the cultural touchstones that shape the lives of students entering college this fall. The creation of Beloit’s former Public Affairs Director Ron Nief and Keefer Professor of the Humanities Tom McBride, it was originally created as a reminder to faculty to be aware of dated references, and quickly became a catalog of the rapidly changing worldview of each new generation. Mindset List websites at Beloit College and at mindsetmoment.com, the media site webcast and their Facebook page receive more than a million hits annually.

Here are a few points from their list of 75:
There has always been an Internet.
The only significant labor disputes in their lifetimes have been in major league sports.
Arnold Palmer has always been a drink.
Sears has never sold anything out of a Big Book that could also serve as a doorstop.
Don’t touch that dial!”….what dial?
American tax forms have always been available in Spanish.
Amazon has never been just a river in South America.
The Communist Party has never been the official political party in Russia.
Dial-up is soooooooooo last century!
Grown-ups have always been arguing about health care policy.
Nurses have always been in short supply.
They won’t go near a retailer that lacks a website
Public schools have always made space available for advertising.
Charter schools have always been an alternative.
They’ve always wanted to be like Shaq or Kobe: Michael Who?
They’ve often broken up with their significant others via texting, Facebook, or MySpace.
