Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics

Additional Requirements:

STEM

Degree in Education
  1. Complete and pass the appropriate exam administered by the Certification Examinations for Oklahoma Educators.
  2. Upon review of official college transcript, a plan-of-study will be determined by a representative of an accredited university and occupational division staff of the Oklahoma Department of CareerTech Education.
  3. Additional credit hours may be needed to obtain a CareerTech STEM certification. These hours must be completed, upon request of state program administrator, in order to teach within a CareerTech funded program. Credit hours may include, but are not limited to, the following courses:
    • Three (3) hours of Student Organizations for CareerTech Education
    • Three (3) hours of Instructional Methods in the
      Technology Engineering  Program.
    • Three (3) hours of higher level technology college course. In addition, forty-four (44) clock hours of professional development in a higher level technology at a CareerTech Center or industry workshop may be required.
Degree in Field other than Education

Alternative Placement Program

Anyone denied admittance to an approved teacher education program or enrolled in and subsequently failed required teacher education courses necessary to meet the minimum requirements of a teacher education program is not eligible for the Oklahoma Alternative Placement Program.

The Alternative Placement Program is administered through the Oklahoma State Department of Education.

  1. The applicant for this program must have earned a baccalaureate degree in a field of study that corresponds to an area of Oklahoma certification for a Secondary Certification in upper math or science or a Career Technology education Certificate.
  2. The applicant shall provide evidence of having three (3) years of appropriate trade experience in the field to be taught.
  3. Upon review of official college transcript, a plan-of-study will be determined by a representative of an accredited university and occupational division staff of the Oklahoma Department of CareerTech Education.
  4. Additional credit hours may be needed to obtain a CareerTech Standard certificate. Credit hours may include, but are not limited to, the following courses:
    • Three (3) hours of Student Organizations for CareerTech Education
    • Three (3) hours of Instructional Methods in the Technology Engineering Program.
    • Three (3) hours of higher level technology college course. In addition, forty-four (44) clock hours of professional development in a higher level technology taken at a CareerTech Center or industry workshop.
