Preparation
It is the intention of the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education that each CareerTech teacher be highly effective; capable of integrating career and technical skills, academic skills and 21st century skills into their courses. In support of this philosophy, every new CT teacher will attend new teacher training, prior to and during their first year of teaching. Teachers whom do not hold a bachelors degree nor a standard teaching certificate may teach with a Provisional Level I, Provisional Level II Certificate or Alternative Teaching Certificate. However, they will be required to work toward degree and/or standard teaching certificate completion.
All new CareerTech teachers are required to complete either the Divisional New Teacher Academy or the CT Teacher Institute. Please visit with your supervisor regarding the route best suited for you.
Route A: Divisional New Teacher Academy
Each occupational division will offer a 2-3 day new teacher workshop that will orient the instructor to the specific division, the CareerTech System, and expectations for the program. Generally, the sessions are in the summer, fall and spring. New Teacher Academy varies in formats and dates depending on the division. State staff will be available to answer questions, offer advice and prepare instructors for the coming year.
Contact your State Program Administrator for more information.
Route B: CT Teacher Institute
This one (1) year program provides a unique "quick start" opportunity to beginning career/technical teachers, whom do not do not hold a degree in teacher education.
