Substitute Teacher Toolbox
This publication is designed to help administrators who are left with an unexpected void in the classroom. It is designed to help substitutes who have been called in to help out in an unfamiliar area or in a situation where lesson plans are unavailable. This collection of activities may also help a teacher who is planning to be away from the classroom, and who knows a substitute will not be able to carry out the original lesson plans because of a lack of technical expertise or lack of familiarity. The activities included in Substitute Teacher Toolbox and on our website are not restricted to substitute teachers, however. Permanent classroom teachers may use any of these exercises in the regular classroom as a break from or as a supplement to regular lesson plans. Instructional managers and resource centers may also want copies of this toolbox. Because we include activities that focus on the development and reinforcement of soft skills such as communication, attitude, teamwork, networking, problem solving, professionalism and more, they can be added to any curriculum to better prepare students for college and career opportunities.
