Story by Matt Kelly,
Communications and Marketing Intern

Governor Brad Henry has made appointments to the new State Board of Career and Technology Education created by legislation approved this past spring.

“We are pleased with the appointments made to the board,” said Phil Berkenbile, CareerTech interim state director. “The appointed members all come from business and industry and I look forward to working with them as we move the CareerTech system forward.”

Berkenbile said the requirements to serve on the CareerTech State Board according to legislation include having first hand knowledge about the CareerTech system. “Board members must be an owner or business executive having the authority to hire or make policy for their company located in Oklahoma or a significant number of their workforce has been trained or educated in the career and technology system,”he said. “Also board members must have a high school diploma or its equivalency.”

Members are appointed by the governor and confirmed by State Senate, and are subject to the orientation and continuing education requirements for school board members.
