Educators Inducted Into CareerTech Hall of Fame

Story by Matt Kelly,
Communications and Marketing Intern

Four former Oklahoma educators will be inducted into the Oklahoma CareerTech Hall of Fame in ceremonies on Monday, Oct. 27 at the Oklahoma State University Student Union Ballroom in Stillwater. The event is being sponsored by the Oklahoma Foundation for Career and Technology Education, said Dr. Phil Berkenbile, state CareerTech interim director.

Induction into the Hall of Fame is the highest honor bestowed by the Foundation, Berkenbile said.

“The award is given to recognize outstanding professional and personal achievements that have brought honor and distinction to the Foundation and to career and technology education in Oklahoma,” he said.

Forty-two Oklahomans have been inducted into the CareerTech Hall of Fame since it was created in 1990. Previous inductees include two governors, college deans and professors, business leaders, educators and state CareerTech agency staff members.

This year’s inductees are:

Arthur Foster, a former community banker and president of the board for Central Technology Center in Drumright/Sapulpa.
Dr. J.W. Weatherford, a former professor from the University of Central Oklahoma who taught vocational teacher education for 27 years.
DeAnn Pence, a vocational family and consumer sciences instructor who taught at Chandler High School for more than 30 years.
Dr. Clyde Knight, a former trade and industrial education professor at Oklahoma State University.

Tickets to the Hall of Fame banquet are $30 per person. Call Lisa Eden at (405) 743-5453 for more information.
