Communications and Marketing Director Selected

Paula Bowles has been named the new CareerTech Director of Communications and Marketing, replacing Ron Wilkerson who retired in June. For the past three years Bowles served as Director of Communications for Moore Public Schools. Prior to working in education, she was involved for some 16 years in marketing and communications for hospitals, serving at Norman Regional Hospital, INTEGRIS and Southwest Medical Center. She began her career as a reporter for the Daily Oklahoman after graduating from Oklahoma Baptist University, Shawnee.

Celebrate 25 Years of Ag Business Management

Tech Center Board Members Honored

Two of the six school board members honored at the Oklahoma State School Board Association and Cooperative Council for Oklahoma School Administration Conference held recently in Oklahoma City were from Oklahoma's technology centers.

Louis Folks, who received the Distinguished Service Award served on the Northwest Tehcnology Center Board of Education for more than 30 years. This award is presented to a present or former school board member who has exhibited distinguished service to his or her school and community during tenure on the school board. Curtis Brackeen, a member of the Indian Captial Technology Center Board of Education was named to the 2003 OSSBA All-State Board of Education.

Blueprint for Success

Educators, counselors, administrators and business partners are invited to attend the Blueprint for Success Conference in teams from their local districts on October 30-31 at the Tulsa Marriott Southern Hills. The conference, sponsored by the state CareerTech agency, features Kathy O’Neill, Leadership Initiative Director of the Southern Region Education Board. She will present methods and initiatives, backed by years of evidence collected by SREB that illustrate what works for student success.

Also, learn about three national programs that are being piloted in Oklahoma at Pioneer Technology Center in Ponca City, Indian Capital Technology Center in Muskogee, Sallisaw, Stilwell and Tahlequah and Great Plains Technology Center, Lawton and a pre-engineering academy at Francis Tuttle.

Food Network to Feature Metro Tech Students

Metro Tech’s winning team of food services students at the ProStart Culinary Cup in the Gourmet Meal category will be broadcast on the Food TV Network “Varsity Cook-Off” Sat. Oct. 25 at 8 p.m. and Sun. Oct. 26 at 12 a.m.

Metro Tech students participating in the Gourmet Meal category were Chris Crowley, Capitol Hill High School; Thomas Horne, Crooked Oak High School; Gabrielle Williams, US Grant High School; Mark Curatola, RENEW and Patrick Bowers, Southeast High School. The culinary arts instructor is Marjory Hammonds.

The winning Gourmet Meal Presentation menu includes a Cedar Springs salad made of baby lettuce, a delicate tomato vase with Maytag blue cheese and edible flower garnish topped with a champagne vinaigrette; pork loin medallions stuffed with Chanterelle mushrooms in a cabernet wine sauce served with an assortment of baby vegetables and pan fried Yukon gold potatoes; and bananas foster for dessert.
