New CareerTech Champions

Where do roads from Vanoss High School to teaching English in Japan, from Adair High School to an assistant professorship at Oklahoma State University and bridging the language barrier gap for elderly and infirm Cherokee people cross? That intersection occurs where three former CareerTech students found success, attributing much of it to their CareerTech program and its student organization.

Selected as “Top Teacher” and one of few Americans to receive a Lifetime Work Visa in Tokyo, Kris Gutierrez found the road to Japan had several curves starting with Family and Consumer Science Education at Vanoss High School.

Newly appointed by the governor to the Board of Nursing, Jan O’Fields is bridging the language barrier gap for elderly and infirm Cherokee people in northeast Oklahoma. She recently earned the Licensed Practical Nurse of the Year Award for the Oklahoma Area Indian Health Service area.

Oklahoma State University Agricultural Communications Assistant Professor Shelly Sitton admits bleeding OSU black and orange in one arm and FFA blue and gold in the other. Thanks to her high school ag education program, this popular instructor chose a path that combines CareerTech and college education for student success.
