Dell To Expand Sales Capability With New Center in Oklahoma

July 7 Dell announced the selection of Oklahoma for a new customer contact center for customers based in the United States.

Hertz Financial CenterThe new center, scheduled to open in temporary facilities within the next 60 to 90 days, will be located in the Hertz Financial Center, 3817 Northwest Expressway, Oklahoma City. The company plans to build a permanent facility next year in the 10-county Greater Oklahoma City region.

Initially, Dell expects to hire approximately 250 sales agents and managers over the next few months and will work with the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission to recruit local people for the jobs. Dell will be looking for individuals with sales experience and will provide, in partnership with the Oklahoma Department of Career & Technology Education, 120 hours of intensive training to prepare them for their role as managers and as customer advisors and advocates.

"I am pleased to help celebrate this important announcement from Dell. This marks a win-win for both Oklahoma and Dell," Oklahoma Gov. Brad Henry said. "Oklahoma will gain several hundred good jobs and a committed corporate citizen, and Dell will benefit from Oklahoma's positive business climate and its dedicated workforce."

Dell, headquartered in Round Rock, Texas, has offices and manufacturing facilities in 41 countries. In the United States, Dell has manufacturing facilities in Central Texas and Middle Tennessee as well as sales and support offices in Round Rock and Waco, Texas; Nashville, Tenn.; Roseburg, Ore.; and Twin Falls, Idaho.

The company is the No. 1 provider of servers and desktop and notebook computers in the United States. It also is the market-share leader in sales to small and medium businesses, with a 22 percent year-over-year share gain at the end of its first fiscal quarter ending April 30.

"As our customer base and business in the United States continues to grow, we realized we needed to add capacity to our existing network of customer care centers. We looked for a location with a good quality of life and a talented workforce," said Ro Parra, senior vice president, Dell Americas. "Oklahoma meets those criteria. Oklahoma City has offered support for the project by partnering in the recruiting and training of our employees to expedite the opening of the facility."

Dell will be hiring both sales managers and sales agents from the local area for the new center. Sales managers will lead teams of sales agents who work with small-to-medium business customers to assist them in defining their needs and specifying the technology that fits their business model. Area residents interested in employment opportunities should contact the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission at www.workforceok.org/DellJobs.

"Dell will have a significant economic impact on Oklahoma and will show other companies that Oklahoma is a great place to be," Oklahoma Secretary of Commerce Kathryn Taylor said. "We are pleased to be partnering with Dell on training and skills development as that focus is key to building the foundation for a strong economy today and continued growth in the future."
