Northwest Technology Center Students Work With Centennial Committee Northwest Technology Center Business and Information Technology program students recently designed a brochure for the Canton Centennial. Students proofread, scanned, word-processed, designed the publication, then presented a variety of brochure designs to the Chamber Publicity Committee. The program allows students to use classroom instruction through an "On The Job Training" (OJT) program, according to Lisa Fuller, business and information technology instructor at NWTC. Students in the OJT program have the opportunity to work with businesses in the community to polish classroom skills and assist with office work and special projects such as the Canton Centennial. Gina Lewis, a full-time student from Okeene, said she enjoyed this project because it involved teamwork, proofing and was a great learning opportunity. Barbara Edwards, a part-time student from Longdale, reported that she was glad to be a part of this history-making project. Students enrolled in the program receive training in computer fundamentals, Windows XP, internet concepts, employability skills, multimedia, human relations work skills, keyboarding, spreadsheet, accounting and telephone techniques, Fuller said. Students also prepare a portfolio, which markets their skills by showcasing examples of their work, certifications, resume and other professional information. The Business and Information Technology program is open to both secondary and adult students. Adult students may attend the program full-time or choose to attend half-time. Secondary students may attend either morning or afternoon sessions. Students in this program may select a career in customer service, office technology or they may choose to further their education by attending a college or university. Options are available for earning college credit hours through partnership agreements between NWTC and area colleges and universities. More information on the Business and Information
Technology Program may be obtained at www.nwtechonline.com.
