Rena Sterling Earns CAP Rating

Image of Rena SterlingThe International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP), the leading association for administrative support staff, has notified Rena Sterling of Stillwater that she has earned the Certified Administrative Professional“ (CAP“) rating. This advanced professional designation requires the individual to satisfy and experience requirements, and pass a comprehensive four-part examination.

In 2003, Sterling received the IAAP Certified Professional Secretary“ (CPS“) program rating.

Sterling has been an administrative professional for 25 years. Currently, she is Senior Secretary for the Instructional Services division at the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education, where she has worked the past ten years. In that capacity, she manages the CareerTech Summer Conference trade show. In 2002, Sterling was selected as Employee of the Quarter. She also is employed by H&R Block in Stillwater.

Channel 23-Tulsa Honors Roberta Scott

Image of Roberta ScottRoberta Scott-Hamilton, Public Information Coordinator, Indian Capital Technology Center, received the Fox 23-Tulsa and Local Jefferson Award, for being a community champion and making a difference in the Tulsa area. Representatives from the station came to the Indian Capital Muskogee Campus to interview her in November. In June the local "heroes" will be recognized.

The award was created in 1972 to encourage and recognize outstanding public and community service. Recipients are “unsung” community heroes. They are volunteers and paid professionals who are going well above and beyond their job descriptions. Connie Cunningham, small business instructor at Indian Capital Technology Center, nominated Roberta for this award.

2004 Superintendent Changes at Oklahoma’s Technology Center

Dr. Andrea Kelly succeeded Dr. Fred A. Shultz upon his retirement July 1 at Meridian Technology Center, Stillwater. Shultz served as superintendent of Meridian since the technology center opened 30 years ago. Kelly served as deputy superintendent/CEO for Meridian Technology Center since 1997. She began her career with MTC in 1983 as a business organization and management instructor.

Dr. William Robert White has been selected as interim superintendent of Indian Capital Technology Center including Muskogee, Sallisaw, Stilwell and Bill Willis campuses. His appointment follows Earl Garrison’s resignation after his election to state senate in the November elections. White has spent the past 19 years as superintendent of Deer Creek and Ponca City schools, retiring from Ponca City in 2004.

Martin "Marty" Lewis has been selected as superintendent of Gordon Cooper Technology Center after the retirement of Beth Little in February 2005. Lewis comes to the CareerTech system after serving as superintendent of Bethel schools. Previous to Bethel, Lewis served as superintendent of Latta Public Schools and assistant superintendent of Tecumseh schools.

Dr. Greg Winters, who served Eastern Oklahoma Technology Center in Choctaw as superintendent for the past 18 years, was selected to head Kiamichi Technology Center and its nine campuses in southeastern Oklahoma. On July 1 he replaced retiring Superintendent Jim Beard.

Dr. Terry Underwood, formerly Eastern Oklahoma Technology Center deputy superintendent, replaced Dr. Greg Winters on July 1 as its superintendent. Winters, recently hired by Kiamichi Technology Center in southeastern Oklahoma will serve as that district’s superintendent. Underwood served in an administration role at EOC for the past eight years, starting at the technology center in 1991 as a counselor.

Image of Heat Pump donationHeat Pump Assoc. of Oklahoma Donates Monies to Skills USA

After 19 years the Heat Pump Association of Oklahoma has closed its doors and voted to donate their remaining funds, to Skills USA.

The funds, totaling $47,442., will be earmarked for Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning programs through out the state.

OAMCTE Sets Banquet Date

The Oklahoma Association of Minorities in Career and Technology Education will hold their annual banquet Thursday, February 17, 2005, at 6:30 pm. The event will be held at Tulsa Technology Center, Peoria Campus.

The banquet is held to raise money for the scholarship fund, and to recognize and award accomplishments. For more information contact Cynthia Vick at 405-743-5162.

 

The Career Cluster Institute, Embracing the Challenge will be held Feb. 22-23 in Tulsa

The institute will be held using the Career Cluster framework to align educational syste
ms and industry clusters for Oklahoma’s economic prosperity. The institute provides an opportunity for local and statewide partnerships to learn from various content experts, view appropriate resources, share current successes, and develop strategic plans for implementation.
