Area High School Students Win in OSU-Okmulgee’s
Genesis Graphic Design Competition

Artistic talents and imaginative graphic design skills paid off for many area high school and CareerTech graphic design students recently. They won scholarships and prizes in Oklahoma State University – Okmulgee’s Genesis Competition. Categories included graphic designs, illustrations and photography.

The annual competition, now in its fourth year, was developed to recognize and reward creative students who have the potential for successful careers in visual communications.

Kurt Stenstrom, instructor in OSU-Okmulgee’s Visual Communications Division, says the GenesisCompetition is an opportunity for the young artists to discover OSU-Okmulgee’s outstanding program and, in turn, to be discovered. “The students who enter this contest have developed fine work in excellent art programs in our state high schools and CareerTechs. This gives us a first look at the best design talent emerging in our secondary schools.

All contestants are invited to tour OSU-Okmulgee’s Visual Communications classrooms, see the high-tech equipment, and meet the highly-skilled faculty, many of whom have experience working in the visual communications industry in addition to years of experience as instructors.”

Students submitted works that included illustration in black and white dry, black & white wet, color dry and color wet; photography in color digital, black and white, color and portrait; and graphic design of a logo, advertisement and magazine/newspaper/outdoor ad.

The prizes included scholarships to attend OSU-Okmulgee’s Visual Communications program, software from Adobe, subscriptions to Communication Arts magazine and other visual communications.
