Metro Technology Centers Legal Office Services Program Receives NALS Accreditation
The National Association for Legal Services recently granted its first accreditation to an Oklahoma technology center when the Legal Office Services program at Metro Technology Centers received full, five-year accreditation status. Metro Tech’s LOS program started as an adult-only, 10-month program on the Springlake Campus in Oklahoma City during the 2003-04 school year. In response to industry demand and student interest, the program quickly expanded to include high school juniors and seniors, according to Jan Carroll, program developer and teacher. “We are delighted that the program has received national accreditation,” Carroll said. “To be the first technology center in the state to receive this honor is especially exciting. Our goal from the beginning was to align our curriculum with the NALS legal training course so that our students would be prepared to take the NALS certification exams. We are grateful for the support the NALS staff provided as we went through this process. “The fact that we received a full, five-year accreditation means that all of the curriculum and accreditation criteria were fully met,” Carroll added. NALS was formed in 1949 with the goal of enhancing the careers of legal assistants by providing continuing legal education, certifications, information, and training. The NALS accreditation process for schools identifies an educational entity’s program as professional and up-to-date and indicates that an outside organization has reviewed the curriculum or course of study and finds that the school has met or exceeded the predetermined standards established by NALS. Levels of accreditation from provisional to full accreditation may be granted. For more information visit the website at http://www.metrotech.org/full-time/cd-los.html
