Scholarships Available to DECA Students

The Meinders College of Business at Oklahoma City University is showing its commitment to CareerTech marketing education programs and DECA, its student organization, by offering scholarships with a total value of $396,000, according to Vince Orza, interim dean of the OCU Meinders business college.

The scholarships will be awarded for all 33 competitive events to first, second and third place winners at the Annual DECA Leadership Development Conference held in the spring.

“The scholarships are stackable with other university scholarships up to the cost of tuition and excluding fees, room and board,” Orza said. “Students winning multiple competitions can combine awards but not to exceed cost of tuition.”

Orza, who is a former CareerTech marketing education teacher, is best known as a former television news anchor and a successful entrepreneur in “eateries” across the state such as Garfield Restaurants and Pepperoni Grill.

Wetumka FFA Members Living to Serve

Image of Wetumka FFAWetumka FFA members collected over $1,000 in donations for Hughes County Fire Fighters. The FFA theme this year is FFA Living to Serve. The officers and members, watching how hard local firemen have been working and listening and reading the news about how their funds are dwindling, decided to do something about it.

The chapter has also challenged other FFA chapters in the county to do the same.

Also, in conjunction with National FFA week, the chapter is hosting the Hughes County Fire Department Benefit Dance, open to all Hughes County FFA students. Proceeds from admission will also go towards the fire fighters.
