CareerTech Teachers/Counselors Board Certified

Twenty-eight Oklahoma CareerTech educators join the state total of 282 teachers who achieved National Board Certification in 2006 and are now recognized as among the nation’s top educators.  

The state’s CareerTech system boasts a total of 118 educators who have achieved this status over the past six years.

Overall Oklahoma ranks seventh nationwide in the number of new National Board Certified Teachers®. The state ranks ninth in the total number of teachers who achieved certification over time (1,569).

Elevating Oklahoma Advertising Campaign

elevating logoThe Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education, the Oklahoma Association of Career and Technical Education and technology centers statewide have teamed up to promote the CareerTech system

On February 1, a multi-media advertising campaign began witht the goal of positioning the CareerTech system as the educational leader in economic, community, and career development for Oklahoma.

New Texas County Board

Guymon Assistant Superintendent of Schools Mike Parkhurst reported the Texas County Technology Center Board of Education had their first official meeting Feb. 5.  Three board members were sworn into office. They are Helen Fairbanks - Zone 1, Kevin Seabaugh - Zone 3, and Gordon Moore - Zone 5. Parkhurst said that a lot of work is yet to be done, but it is nice to see the positive steps being taken to bring CareerTech to Texas County.

LifeSmarts Competition

Cushing High School took first place for the second year in a row during the state LifeSmarts competition on Feb. 6.

Family Career and Community Leaders of America sponsors the LifeSmarts program.  FCCLA is the student organization affiliated with Family and Consumer Sciences Education program.

The six high schools competed at the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education in Stillwater are Cushing, Indianola, Waurika, Chisholm, Ponca City and Wanette High School.

LifeSmarts is an educational program for high school students that tests contestants’ knowledge of consumer issues including personal finance, technology, the environment, consumer rights and responsibilities and health and safety. 

The season began with an internet competition where students compete for top scores online and work to make it to the state competition.  The top six teams in the state then compete in Stillwater for the championship.

Culinary Students Wow Crowd at Woolaroc Hunt Dinner

The local chapter of the Chaine des Roitisseursheld recently held a hunt dinner at Woolaroc Museum near Bartlesville. The purpose of the evening was to raise money for the Tulsa Baillage’s culinary foundation, which supports those pursuing degrees in the culinary and hospitality arts.

Chaine Bailli, or president, Sue Gerkin told those attending that “we could be dining anywhere in the world and not have a dinner to compare with what we will experience this evening.”

County Technology Center featuring the menu design of culinary director and Chaine member Philippe Garmy. Chaine Chef Rotisseu, Tiffany Poe, and 35 Tri-County Technology Center culinary students.
