High Schools That Work

Welcome to High Schools That Work from the State Coordinator

Message from the State Coordinator:

Today's students live in an era driven by math, science, technology, and information.  Consequently, we must prepare them with the essential skills they need to prosper in the new world economy.  High Schools That Work (HSTW) provides that framework through 10  Key Educational Practices for accelerating learning and setting higher standards.

Oklahoma is a member of the Southern Regional Education Board's (SREB) network of 28 states in the HSTW program. We have 40 HSTW sites and 2 Making Schools Work sites that participate in these initiatives through the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education.  All  HSTW and MSW sites actively participate in a Tech Prep consortium.  Administrators, school leaders, and teachers work as partners with students, parent, and the community to improve the way they prepare students for work and postsecondary education.

Oklahoma students deserve to attend High Schools That Work where learning is exciting, active, creative, and challenging.  Students deserve to realize their full value and potential when encouraged to put forth the effort to succeed.

Please contact staff if you have additional questions.
