Employee training helps keep Woodward area businesses current in safety and industry specific technology training for long term and new employees. Deepwater Chemical, Inc. is currently participating in an Existing Industry Training Program coordinated by High Plains Technology Center.

"Our relationship to High Plains Technology Center has allowed us to put together introductory training as well as higher level training, High Plains has given us expanded training as we've grown!" stated Bill Stanley, Regulatory Manager, Deepwater Chemical, Inc. "We have worked mainly with Dr. Bill Jackson and Link Alley to coordinate our Existing Industry Training Program."

The most recent training held at Deepwater Chemical was entitled Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance and Control. The training was conducted by Dr. Alan Smith and Dr. Jerry Lanese, both of The Center for Professional Advancement located in East Brunswick, New Jersey. These two facilitators have more than 40 years of industry experience and have worked closely with the FDA and other regulatory agencies.

Attending the training were six employees of Deepwater's Woodward facility. The group was trained in specific and updated FDA regulations, and Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMP's) as they relate to the pharmaceutical lab. "Production of over-the-counter drugs and prescription drugs must meet certain levels of purity," stated Stanley. "This training allows us review the integration of current processes, procedures and technology into the manufacturing process. Not many outlets have this type of high level training, especially in Northwest Oklahoma."

Training classDeepwater Chemical built its Woodward facility in 1994. At that time, Deepwater began working with High Plains Technology Center through its Training For Industry program on basic process safety training for Deepwater's Chemical Operators and Supervisors.

Deepwater Chemical, Inc. has been in business since 1931. Its Woodward facility specializes in producing a broad range of organic and inorganic iodides. The plant can also manufacture fine pharmaceutical chemicals and other iodine products which are used in agriculture, photography, ink, sanitizers and water treatments.

High Plains Technology Center's Industry Training program has worked with more than 100 area employers during the past year. The program is designed to provide affordable, customized training in the areas of safety, leadership and industry specific training for area employers. The program is facilitated by Link Alley, Business and Industry Coordinator at High Plains Technology Center and his staff
