Supervisors at The Hartford credit Francis Tuttle's BIS training with helping them get their new employees trained and licensed quickly and successfully, enabling The Hartford to get their offices functioning even earlier than anticipated.

Francis Tuttle started training new employees in Oklahoma City for The Hartford soon after they began hiring for their new center in Oklahoma City. The Hartford needed a large number of employees in a short amount of time that could become licensed by the Oklahoma Insurance Commission.

"Hiring individuals that had not previously worked in the insurance industry and who must pass the extremely difficult Oklahoma Property and Casualty Licensure exam presented a true challenge," said Cecilia Smith, vice president for The Hartland Division of The Hartford's Personal Lines Insurance Center. "The training assistance provided by Francis Tuttle and the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education has been critical to our success!"

Francis Tuttle's Business and Industry Services team provided instructors to work hand-in-hand with The Hartford's trainers and managers to prepare their new employees to successfully pass the licensing exam. The goal of the training was not only to obtain licensure, but for the new associates to gain a solid understanding of the insurance industry while learning how to best serve the customer. All new associates spend their first two weeks with The Hartford in training at Francis Tuttle.

"Without Francis Tuttle's generosity in providing support, we might have been a month longer in getting started," Smith said.

Training for The Hartford was provided through Oklahoma's nationally recognized Training for Industry Program (TIP). The availability of these training services was a major incentive for The Hartford to locate in Oklahoma.

TIP is an economic development program funded by the Oklahoma Legislature to support new and expanding industries and new jobs in Oklahoma. Francis Tuttle provides training for in job-specific skills for new employees at no cost to companies who qualify in the following three ways:

  • The company must be creating new jobs that don't currently exist in Oklahoma.
  • The jobs must be permanent with full-time benefits.
  • The company must export goods and/or services outside the state of Oklahoma.
