JCPenney Scholarship
For almost 50 years, JCPenney Company, Inc., has been a supporter and partner of DECA, giving generously of its time, personnel and funding to help DECA’s program grow and DECA members succeed. The Company’s commitment to DECA’s advisors and members includes an active National Advisory Board corporate membership and sponsorship of DECA’s national Retail Merchandising Series Competitive Events.
Now, in recognition of the expanding relationships between DECA chapters and local JC Penney stores and support units, the Company has established a scholarship program for JCPenney associates who are also DECA members. Up to $20,000 in scholarships of $1,000 each will be given this year to DECA members employed as local JCPenney associates. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of the applicant's

Your student associate is eligible to apply for a JCPenney DECA scholarship
if he or she is:
(1) An active member of DECA and a full- or part-time JCPenney associate in good standing.
(2) Iintending to pursue a full-time two-year or four-year course of study in Marketing, Management or Marketing education.
(3) Shows evidence of scholastic ability.
Scholarships may be used for any accredited post secondary institution or four-year college/university offering courses designed to prepare individuals for careers in marketing, management or marketing education.
These items must be included with the application package:
- The application form fully completed.
- An official transcript of high school and any post secondary school grades.
- Scholastic Aptitude Test scores or American College Testing Program scores.
- A statement about DECA participation and accomplishments.
- A statement of JCPenney work experience and performance.
- Substantiating evidence of leadership, responsibility and character other than DECA experience.
- Three letters of recommendation: one from a JCPenney store/unit/department manager, one from a DECA advisor and one other.
- Supplemental information the applicant judges may be useful to the selection committee.
The Application Process
The completed application form and necessary substantiating information must be submitted to National DECA postmarked no later than the annual designated deadline.
You may submit an application for every JCPenney associate who is an active DECA member.
It is NOT necessary to submit the JCPenney Scholarship application through the state DECA advisor. JCPenney Scholarship applications should be sent directly to

Scholarship winners will be notified through their DECA chapter advisor in April.
Awards will be paid directly to the college or school registering the recipient and the amount will be credited to an account on which he/she may draw for expenses as approved by the school administration.
NOTE: The JCPenney Scholarship Program is SEPARATE from the DECA Scholarship Awards Program.
