Teacher Certification
Part I.
IntroductionThe holder of a Vocational Marketing Education Certificate is authorized to teach Vocational Marketing Education courses in accredited secondary schools and technology centers in Oklahoma (see Standards for Accreditation of Elementary, Middle, Secondary Schools and Technology Centers).
Part II.
Special Criteria- The applicant shall satisfy all "General Regulations" specified on pages 5-11.
- The applicant shall satisfy all specialization requirements for occupational certificate programs and "Admission, General Education, and Professional Education Standards" as specified on pages 13-18.
- The applicant shall have two (2) years of appropriate (full-time, 4,000 hours performing primarily marketing functions paid, verifiable) work experience in marketing within the five (5) years preceding initial certification. The state supervisor of Marketing Education shall verify work experience.
- The applicant shall receive a recommendation for certification from the state supervisor of Marketing Education, in addition to a recommendation from an institution with an approved Occupational Marketing Education teacher education program.
- The applicant shall pass the teacher certification test in Marketing Education. (In some cases Occupational Marketing Education may still be referred to by old names such as "Distributive Education or DE/Marketing-these standards should apply to any references using old terminology.)
Alternative Certification
If you received your alternative certification prior to September 1, 1999 the following applies:
- You must pass the Teacher Certification Exam for Marketing Education prior to making application for ALTERNATIVE CERTIFICATION.
Plus the following:
- (CVE) Cooperative Vocational Education (1 week course in July)
- Instructional Strategies of Teaching Marketing Education or Organization and Administration of Marketing Education
- 12 hours of Marketing and/or Management
- Appropriate Marketing Occupational Work Experience 4,000 hours (2 years) or if your marketing experience is over five years old you must develop a plan to acquire up-to-date work experience by doing paid or unpaid internships with business and industry management level personnel (your plan must be approved by the State Program Administration for Occupational Marketing Education)
If you do not have a teaching certificate and have a B.S. or B.A. degree:
- You must pass the Teacher Certification Exam for Marketing Education prior to making application for ALTERNATIVE CERTIFICATION.
Plus the following:
- The Exceptional Child or appropriate substitute
- Instructional Strategies of Teaching Marketing Education
- (CVE) Cooperative Vocational Education (one week course in July)
- Organization and Administration of Marketing Education
- History and Philosophy of Occupational Education
- 12 hours of Marketing and/or Management
- Appropriate Marketing Occupational Work Experience--4,000 hours (2 years) or if your marketing experience is over five years old, you must develop a plan to acquire up-to-date work experience by doing paid or unpaid internships with business and industry management level personnel (your plan must be approved by the State Program Administration for Occupational Marketing Education)
