Mike Vaughan - Central Technology Center
THEN: A Cleveland High School student and the son of a carpentry instructor at the nearby technology center. Mike Vaughan didn’t choose the same career path as his father, but he did sign up for classes at Central Technology Center, where his father taught. He chose the offset printing program and quickly became one of instructor Danny Hoggatt’s favorite students. He graduated from what is now the digital printing and imaging communication program in 1981 and went to work for Pennwell Printing and Publishing.
Through the Central Tech program, he gained:
- A better understanding of the printing industry and increased passion for the trade.
- Customer service and communication skills, which helped him gain a top leadership position at a large printing company.
- Important job skills such as showing up on time and following directions.
NOW: Print and marketing consultant of CP Solutions, a $12 million RR Donnelley company that delivers print, direct mail, promotional products and fulfillment solutions in Tulsa. Mike serves on Hoggatt’s advisory committee at Central Tech.
“[Job applicants] with a CareerTech background come in with skills the general public doesn’t have and that makes them more marketable to us.”
