Various schools recognized at SREB; Oklahoma Teachers Retirement executive director named; Sharing of Best Practices Conference planned; administrator and mentor training set for Sept. 15; tech center helps immigrant help others; and my schedule for the week.

Various schools recognized at SREB

Oklahoma high schools and tech centers received awards at the 28th annual High Schools That Work and Tech Centers That Work staff development conference in July in Nashville, Tenn. Each award is determined by specific criteria around student readiness goals, graduation rate, assessments and career and technical studies. Ten Oklahoma schools and tech centers received awards:

  • HSTW Platinum High Achievement Award - Choctaw High School
  • STW Gold Achievement Award - Moore High School
  • TCTW Platinum High Achievement Centers - Chisholm Trail Technology Center, Pioneer Technology Center, Red River Technology Center
  • TCTW Gold Readiness Award - Moore Norman Technology Center, Tri County Technology Center,Tulsa Technology Center
  • TCTW Gold Improvement Award - Meridian Technology Center, Metro Technology Centers

Oklahoma Teachers Retirement executive director named

On Aug. 27, the Oklahoma Teachers Retirement System Board of Trustees named Tom Spencer as its new executive director. He will fully assume his role as executive director on Nov. 1.

Sharing of Best Practices Conference planned

The Oklahoma Quality Foundation is hosting a Sharing of Best Practices Conference in Tulsa on Sept. 25. Participants at the conference will learn about best practices from Oklahoma and regional representatives who are considered role models in their industries. The event, sponsored by the Oklahoma Department of Commerce, Oklahoma Business Roundtable, Mesa and Tulsa Regional Chamber, will provide an opportunity for participants to learn the latest insights into how to drive performance excellence, including the techniques to position themselves for breakthrough performance.

Administrator and mentor training set for Sept. 15

Training for administrators and mentor teachers who participate in teacher institute or teacher induction is scheduled for Sept. 15. Please contact for more information.

Tech center helps immigrant help others

“Oklahoma Horizon” will focus on legal immigration in its Sept. 7 episode. America was built by immigrants converging from around the world looking for a better life. Francis Tuttle Technology Center’s orthotics and prosthetics program is helping one such immigrant achieve his dream of helping others through a STEM career. (contributed by Karen Hart)
