SMC Technologies Receives OSHA SHARP Certification
Labor Commissioner Melissa McLawhorn Houston presented SMC Technologies Vice President Steve Bowersox with the Oklahoma Department of Labor’s coveted, Safety Pays® flag. SMC Technologies is a client of Mid-Del Technology Center.
SMC Technologies received the Safety & Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) certification from the Oklahoma Department of Labor. SMC Technologies received this Certification in a ceremony held at the company's headquarters in Midwest City on Dec. 4.
Labor Commissioner, Melissa McLawhorn Houston, made the presentation to Steve Bowersox, vice president of SMC Technologies. Commissioner Houston also presented the agency's coveted, Safety Pays® flag, to the firm.
"The Department of Labor is pleased to recognize SMC Technologies' achievement in earning their 11th certification," Houston related.
SMC Technologies is a family owned and operated chemical company located in Midwest City and has been in business since 1944. They specialize in cooling tower & boiler treatment, waste water treatment, oil field production chemicals, specialty cleaners for all applications, metal cleaning and automatic feed systems.
Bowersox reflected on the company's successes, and said development of an effective safety and health program in their business was the result of the consulting and training provided by Mid-Del Technology Center for the past 12 years.
"Without their low cost training and guidance through the years this certification would not have been possible. The services provided by Mid-Del Technology Center have saved SMC several thousands of dollars in reduced Workers' Compensation fees, lost time and medical expense," said Bowersox.
The Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) was designed by the U.S. Department of Labor-- Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) to encourage and recognize excellence in occupational safety and health. SHARP certification exempts a small business from OHSA's programmed inspections for a period of up to three years. The Midwest City business is one of only 15 companies in the state of Oklahoma currently holding the SHARP Certification.
