Computer Repair and Troubleshooting II

Course Description

Students will prepare for positions related to the maintenance of computers and computer-related equipment through hands-on and project-based learning, textbook assignments, and Internet research. The focus of this course is software and operating systems.

Knowledge and Skills

Define the term €śoperating system €ť and explain different types of interfaces.
Understand how the operating system handles resources and files.
Gain a basic understanding of DOS.
Use the functions of Windows 2000 and Windows XP to manage folders and files, and use the unique features to customize the operating system.
Understand the basic functionalities of NT, use the control panel icons, set file and folder permissions, and use Network Neighborhood to share a network device.
Define local area network and wide area network.
Understand how Novell manages resources on the network and install a shared printer.
Work within the GNOME desktop environment, and in a terminal emulation program.
Properly shut down the Linux operating system either through an Xterm window or through the GNOME interface.
Install, configure and upgrade operating systems.
Diagnose and troubleshoot operating system problems.
