Course Title

Aircraft Communication and Navigation Systems

Course Description

This course provides students with the skills to properly inspect, check, and troubleshoot communication and navigations systems found in aircraft cockpits. Instruments addressed include autopilot, servos, approach coupling systems, VHF passenger address interphones, static discharge devices, aircraft VOR, ILS, LORAN, radar beacon transponders, flight management computers, and GPWS. Students will also inspect and repair antenna and electronic equipment installations.

Knowledge and Skills

-Inspect, check, and troubleshoot autopilot, servos, and approach coupling systems

-Inspect, check, and service aircraft electronic communication and navigation systems, including VHF passenger address interphones and static discharge devices, aircraft VOR, ILS, LORAN, radar beacon transponders, flight management computers, and GPWS

-Inspect and repair antenna and electronic equipment installations

Accountability Measures, Assessments, or Evaluation Procedures

Written and practical evaluations will be performed at the Part 147 AMTS. Upon successful completion of the AMTS requirements, students will have the opportunity to test with the FAA for licensure certification.

Industry Alignments

This course aligns with FAA Part 147 certified Aviation Maintenance Technician School (AMTS) curriculum requirements. Teaching of this course by any entity other than a FAA 147 certified AMTS does not constitute FAA certification. Furthermore, each AMTS must have its curriculum approved by the FAA in its entirety, identifying the hours of instruction, order of instruction, subjects prescribed by Part 147, practical application projects, scheduling of tests, grading criteria, and makeup provisions.
