Fundamentals of Turf and Lawn Management

Course Description

The Fundamentals of Turf and Lawn Management course is designed to develop student skills to perform at a beginning/entry level in the turfgrass industry. The principles and practices involved in establishing, managing, and maintaining grassed areas for ornamental and/or recreational purposes are addressed in this course.

Knowledge and Skills

Given the necessary equipment, materials, and instruction, the student, on completion of the prescribed course of study, will be able to successfully accomplish the following core competencies:

Identification of turfgrass and weeds

Demonstrating basic engine care

Ornamental plant identification, taxonomy, and culture

Plant irrigation

Basic turfgrass pest control

Basic soils

Soil fertilizers and fertility

Setting up a transit

Home lawn care and maintenance

Recommend providing information required to be an effective teacher
