Course Title

Fundamentals of Greenhouse, Nursery and Garden Center Technology

Course Description

The Fundamentals of Greenhouse, Nursery and Garden Center Technology course is designed to develop student skills to perform at beginning/entry level nursery, greenhouse and/or garden center job positions. Students will be given instruction in plant propagation, plant maintenance, nursery, greenhouse, and garden center operations.

Knowledge and Skills

Given the necessary equipment, materials, and instruction, the student, on completion of the prescribed course of study, will be able to successfully accomplish the following core competencies:

Demonstrating preliminary free-hand layout skills

Nursery growing structures and facilities

Selection and scheduling nursery planting

Transplanting nursery plants

Pest control

Managing plants in the nursery

Harvesting and moving nursery plants

Sod production

Starting a nursery business

Recommend providing information required to be an effective teacher
