In 1990, Mutual of Omaha's Health Care Service Center
in Woodward needed temporary office space while their facility
was under construction. Little did they know that they would
find more than just a location to temporarily house their staff.
High Plains Technology Center allowed Mutual of Omaha to use
a classroom for office space and also volunteered to administer
the initial skills testing to Mutual's first 150 job applicants.
Today, High Plains has administered tests to more than 2,000
Mutual of Omaha job applicants. The Woodward facility, handling
Mutual of Omaha's group health insurance claims, is one of three
claims processing centers in the nation.
"More than 90 percent of
our associates have taken at least one course in addition to
the required training classes," said Sandi Liles, regional
manager of Mutual of Omaha's Woodward Office.

"High Plains Technology Center has been receptive to all
of our needs throughout the years," she said. "The
training they provide ensures that our associates have the opportunity
to be top-notch performers."
High Plains is one of Oklahoma's 29 technology center districts
on 54 campuses.
That's why Mutual
of Omaha is recognized as one of Oklahoma's CareerTech
Business Champions.
CareerTech Business Champions attribute much of their
economic success to the partnerships they have formed with the
local technology center or high school CareerTech programs.
Mutual of Omaha, founded in 1909, is one of the largest insurers
in the country. Today, more than 15,000 employers with 4 million
employees, spouses and dependents entrust their families' financial
security with the company.
"We've worked closely with Dr. Bill Jackson, assistant superintendent
at the High Plains Technology Center, to implement a set of skills
courses that provided training necessary for employment at Mutual
of Omaha," Liles said.
This collaboration has continued during the past 11 years as
High Plains Technology Center has administered keyboarding, verbal
and reading comprehension and comparative analysis tests to Mutual
of Omaha job applicants.
The technology center
has also offered numerous leadership, motivational, computer
and technical training opportunities, which was a perfect fit
for Mutual's Health Care Service Center.
Liles said last spring High Plains Technology Center's Business
and Industry Services division trained every associate at Mutual
of Omaha's Woodward facility with material about change in the
workplace called 'Who Moved My Cheese?' The technology
center trainers also lead "The Dimensions of Leadership
Training" for all supervisors and managers.
"We are currently planning leadership and technical training
for this year and are looking forward to working with High Plains
Technology Center for years to come," she said.
