Godfrey
Siamusiye is a man who has worn several hats in his life -- Olympic
athlete, college student and now entrepreneur.
Siamusiye, is also a graduate of Northeast
Technology Center's (NTC) welding program. He now owns G Welding
in Fayetteville, Ark. where he combines his welding skills with
a degree in business management from the University of Arkansas.
That is why he is being recognized as a CareerTech champion.
Champions are alumni of the system's programs or student organizations
who attribute much of their success to their CareerTech
experience.
Siamusiye took a round about journey to Northeast Technology
Center. He first came to the United States, from his native Zambia,
on a track scholarship. He was recruited to the University of
Arkansas after coaches spotted him running in the 1992 and 1996
Olympic Games.
After graduating from college, Siamusiye decided that he wanted
to be his own boss.
"I had a goal to start my own business," he said. "I
researched the Fayetteville area to find the needs of the community.
There was a shortage of welders the phone book listed only
one welding shop."
After hearing about Oklahoma's outstanding CareerTech
system Godfrey decided to enroll in the welding program at Northeast
Technology Center in Kansas, Ok.
He was not only impressed with NTC's facilities, but also the
hands-on attitude of the instructors. Siamusiye says his relationship
with instructor Jess Webb was like the one he had with his track
coaches.
"If you are willing to give what it takes, the instructor
like a coach is willing to help," he said. "That's
just what Mr. Webb did for me. I was comfortable asking him anything
that was not clear to me. He's not only a very good motivator,
he's one of the best people I've ever known."
