Greenblock Donates to CareerTech Construction Programs

Greenblock Worldwide, a manufacturer of Insulating Concrete Forms is donating more than $25,000 of forms and associated tools and materials to technology centers throughout the state to be used in the construction trades programs. The donation will be presented to the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education.

The donation is being coordinated through Oklahoma ICF, Greenblock’s Oklahoma distributor, according to Renae Oglesby, president of Oklahoma ICF.

“Because this is an alternative and fairly new construction method within Oklahoma, we have developed online curriculum set up for all technology centers to provide this unique training within the construction trades programs free of charge,” Oglesby said.

Oklahoma ICF and Greenblock are leading the effort to educate those in the construction trades industry about building with this new technology and the safety and energy efficiency these systems provide.

“We want to start our education with the technology centers so their students will have an opportunity to learn this advanced building system. By providing a skilled workforce, building with ICF will become much more affordable to the consumer in a short time,” Oglesby said.

This type of donation promotes the latest technology for students in our carpentry and cement masonry programs, according to Larry Bullock, state CareerTech trade and industry program specialist.

“Residential and commercial sectors are moving toward greenbuild construction techniques and more efficient modes of construction using alternative materials,” Bullock said. “This alternative material is cutting edge in that it also offers more shapes, radius without cutting and patching and replaces the need for wood and steel in the construction process.”

Greenblock and Oklahoma ICF will showcase the curriculum and make a formal presentation of the donation at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 18, at the Francis Tuttle Technology Center Reno Campus, 7301 West Reno Avenue, located one block west of Rockwell on Reno. Representatives from each company will be on hand to answer questions about ICF and the online curriculum. For more information, contact Oklahoma ICF at (405) 227-6309.
