Web Policy Statement

The Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education recognizes the growing use of the Internet as a vehicle to receive and exchange information. In order to maintain the Department's strong image and reputation, the following policies and procedures will insure that our web pages are not only current, accurate and visually appealing, but that they follow the same high standards as other forms of information published by the Department.

Web Page Creation

Division or unit heads within the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education are responsible for reviewing, clearing, and maintaining the content posted on official web pages as well as any divisional links to other sites. The division is also responsible for posting information for those pages in accordance with departmental policy and state and federal law. Before posting on the web, new pages will also be reviewed by the agency webmaster.

Timeliness

All official home pages must carry a stamp indicating when they were last updated so as to keep this site fresh and current. Divisional pages must be reviewed and updated within the first five working days of each month and date stamps changed at that monthly review.

Use of Images

Divisions must have written permission to publish graphics, photographs, drawings, video clips or sound clips if they are not the trademark or copyright owner. Copyright and trademark laws apply to electronic publishing including the Internet. All electronic publications are subject to the same departmental policies as print publications. A sample letter requesting permission can be found at here. Pages should also reflect gender and cultural diversity policies of ODCTE.

Navigational Aids

Divisions or units must use the corporate banner on each page that links to the home or corporate page. Banners here

Corporate Header/Banner/Logos

All main pages will have the defined careerTech header so as to promote continuity and consistency of the department's image. This header may be the first and only impression that a person has of our agency and altering it only causes identity confusion. Headers/banners/ logos may be found in the agency's web resources folder. Please refer to the standard template page for specific layout details.

Accessibility

Oklahoma’s standards for Web-based Intranet and Internet Information and Applications closely mirror Section 508 standards.  The standards use slightly modified language in six standards (a, c, j, k, l, and m) and add three additional standards (q, r, and s) to the Section 508 standards.  These modifications, based largely on World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) accessibility standards, improve the clarity of some standards and add additional important guidelines for improved accessibility.

The State of Oklahoma passed HB 2197 in 2004 for the provision of electronic and information technology accessibility. The Oklahoma Department of CareerTech is a part of this effort and all webpages must comply with the standards set forth. Please refer to the Accessibility page here.
