2014 High School Competitive Event Modifications

Competitive Event Modification - HS

*Students in Grade 9-12.  Ninth-grade students from the same chapter must choose to compete in all Level I or all Level II events.  They cannot compete at both levels.

 

1.  Animatronics

Coordinator: Joe Patten, 580-526-3351, jpatten@erickps.k12.ok.us

-This event will follow national guidelines.

-Eligibility: Entries are limited to three team of up to 3 members.

2.  Architectural Renovation

Coordinator: Chris Buster, 580-654-2886, cbuster@carnegienet.net

-Check the following link for specifics on the design problem "Americus House"

-This event will follow national guidelines.

-Eligibility: There is no limit for number of entries for state.

3.  Biotechnology Design - Not current for 2014

Coordinator: Mike Bobbitt, tech@hominy.k12.ok.us

-Eligibility: Entries are limited to two team of two.

4.  Career Preparation - Not current for 2014

Coordinator: Kelli Woods, kmwoods@alvaschools.net

-Eligibility: Entries are limited to three students per chapter.

5.  Chapter Team

Coordinator: Alan Fillmore, afleemore@hotmail.com

-A high school competitor must compete in high school Chapter Team only.  A ninth

grade student must choose Level I or Level II.

-There will be no online test.

-Eligibility: Entries are limited to two team of six per chapter.  Teams do not have to

be elected officers of the local TSA chapter.

6.  CAD, Architectural with Animation - Not current for 2014

Coordinator: Nathan Brubaker, 405-743-5113, nathan.brubaker@careertech.ok.gov

-Participants bring hardware, software, and equipment for the event.  A hardware profile

form for each student will not be necessary.

-At state students may compete in both Architectural and Engineering CAD, however if

you place and are eligible for nationals you will need to choose only one to compete in.

-Eligibility:  Entries are limited to three students per chapter.

7.  CAD, Engineering with Animation - Not current for 2014

Coordinator: No coordinator at this time.  If we do not find one this event will not be offered this year.

-The time limit for state conference will be 2 hours, not 4 hours which are allowed at

national conference.

-Participants bring hardware, software, and equipment for the event.  A hardware profile

form for each student will not be necessary.

-Students will be required to burn their animation to a CD or DVD in AVI or MOV file format.

-At state students may compete in both Architectural and Engineering CAD, however if

you place and are eligible for nationals you will need to choose one.

-Eligibility: Entries are limited to three students per chapter.

8.  Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Production

-Eligibility: Entries are limited to one team of two students per chapter.

9.  Construction System - TechConnect (OK only)

Coordinator: Roger Miller, rmiller@baschools.org

-There will be one session during the am.

-Sample Drawings - Please note these are not the exact plans to be used at state but are similar.

-Participants are required to bring all materials and equipment necessary for this contest.

-Eligibility: Entries are limited to three teams of two students per chapter.

10. Debating Technological Issues

Coordinator: Frankie Franklin, tommychuck75@yahoo.com

-This event will follow national guidelines.

-Eligibility: Entries are limited to one team of two members.

11.  Desktop Publishing

Coordinator: Jill Sullins, jill.sullins@edmondschools.net

-Participants must check in their portfolio of materials at the time specified in the

conference program.

-Per National TSA in addition to the items required you will need to have a cover page

and a title page.

-All portfolio papers are developed on 8 1/2" X 11" paper.

-2014 participants are not required to bring hardware/software.

-2014 no onsite problem will be assigned at the state conference.

-Eligibility: Entries are limited to two students per chapter.

12.  Digital Video Production - Not current for 2014

Coordinator: Tom Trammell, jttrammell@okcps.org

NOTE: ensure that the DVD works in a standard DVD player before submission.

-You must bring 2 copies of the DVD in jewel cases.

-Eligibility: Entries are limited to two team of three per chapter.

13. Dragster Design - Not current for 2014

-Eligibility: Entries are limited to three individually produced dragsters per chapter.

14.  Engineering Design - Not current for 2014

-Entries must be started and completed during the current school year.

-Finalist presentations will be given at state conference.

-Competition attire required for presentations.

-Must not require use of electricity for review and evaluation judges.

-Eligibility: Entries are limited to two team of three to five per chapter.

15. Essays on Technology - Not current for 2014

Coordinator: No coordinator at this time.  If we do not find one this event will not be offered this year.

-Eligibility: Entries are limited to one per chapter.

16.  Extemporaneous Speech

-Eligibility: Entries are limited to the top ten from each region.

17.  Fashion Design - Not current for 2014

-Eligibility: Entries are limited to three team of two to four members.

18.  Flight Endurance

-This contest will follow all national guidelines.

-2014: Ceiling height is 17 ft.

-Eligibility: Entries are limited to two students per chapter.

19.  Future Technology Teacher - Not current for 2014

-Eligibility: Entries are limited to four per chapter.

20.  Manufacturing Prototype

-The product for 2014 is a product developed and produced in an alternative  way (versus by a

traditional method) that demonstrates a deduction of waste.  (Read the competitive event guide).

-The marketing package should not include the use of any copyright characters or images,

(Hint, the product can be brought in the "packaging" to be "opened" by the judges.

-The product is limited to 24" X 24" X 24"

-Eligibility: Entries are limited to three per chapter.

21.  Music Production - Not current for 2014

22. On Demand Video

-Event check in will be April 1, 2014 to receive the problem.

-Event turn in will be April 3, 2014 to turn in final project.

-Entries are limited to one per chapter.

23. Open Source Software Development - Not current for 2014

Coordinator: No coordinator at this time.  If we do not fine one this event will not be offered this year.

-Eligibility: Entries are limited to one team per chapter.

24. Photographic Technology - Not current for 2014

25.  Prepared Presentation

Coordinator:  No coordinator at this time.  If we do not find one this event will not be offered this year.

-Eligibility: Entries are limited to the top ten from each region.

26.  Project Fair

27.  Promotional Graphics

-This event will follow nation guidelines.

28.  Rube Goldberg

-Eligibility: Entries are limited to two team of six.  If a team does not have six members

they will be DQ'd

Final judging will begin at 2:00.

30.  Structural Engineering

31.  System Control Technology

32.  TechConnect Welding

-2014 Drawings

-The students are required to bring their own materials.

-There will be a 25 question onsite test.

-Instructors with participants must provide one prize per entry.

Eligibility: Entries are limited to four participants per instructor.

33.  Technical Sketching and Application

-#2 pencil with eraser

-120 scale, compass, and protractor

-Students must take a written test online prior to the conference and the top twelve finalists

will compete in the finals onsite.

-Eligibility: Entries are limited to two students per chapter.

34.  Technology Bowl

-Test will be taken online prior to state conference and top twelve will advance to finals that will

be held onsite.

-Eligibility: Entries are limited to one team of three students per chapter.

35.  Technology Problem Solving - Not current for 2014

-Eligibility: Entries are limited to one team of two students per chapter.

36.  Transportation Modeling - Not current for 2014

-Vehicles are not tested at the state conference.

-Eligibility: Entries are limited to three students per chapter.

37.  VEX Robotics - Not current for 2014

-Each team will have to use their own equipment, tools, robot, and robot parts.

-Eligibility: Entries are limited to two teams of three per chapter.

38.  Video Game Design

Coordinator: Jay Evans, jevans@francistuttle.edu

-A working interactive game will be submitted on a DVD for evaluation.

-Please refer to the 2013-2014 High School TSA Competitive Events Guide.

-Each finalist team will explain its notebook and game to the evaluators, discussing

the purpose, value, design, rules, and development process of its work; teams may

also have to answer questions posed by the evaluators.

-Eligibility: Entries are limited to three individual per chapter.

39.  Webmaster

Coordinator: Tom Fields, 405-743-5111, tom.fields@careertech.ok.gov

-The event design for the contest can be found on National TSA's homepage.

-The Universal Resource Locator (URL) for the Technology Engineering's website must be

emailed to Dawn Frank by midnight on March 21, 2014.  The subject line of the email

must be: Webmaster.

-2014 there will be onsite finals.

-Eligibility: Entries are limited to three team consisting of three to five students per chapter.
