TEACHING CERTIFICATION RENEWAL CHECKLIST

TRADE AND INDUSTRIAL EDUCATION

1.    Between April 15 and May 31 of your first year of teaching apply for your first renewal of your teaching certificate. Remember that your certificate expires on June 30th and that your application for renewal must be processed by that time.  Your first renewal will require that you provide copies of your occupational competency test results and any college hours added to your transcripts related to your Plan of Study. These documents and a $10 check for renewal fees should be stapled to the certificate renewal form and mailed to the Technology Education/Trade and Industrial Education office.

2.  During your second year of teaching you MUST complete a minimum 6 credit hours toward the specifications of your degree plan, work on your basic T&I hours,
and/or 7-9 general education hours. Do NOT depend upon hours completed during
a previous teaching year; hours DO NOT carryover from one year to another.

3.  Between April 15 and May 31 of your second year of teaching, apply for your second renewal. Again, documents needed are a renewal application form, official transcripts, and a $10 check -- all mailed to Dennis Ruttman’s office.

4.  For third and fourth renewals, continue the same process as indicated above. Remember, you must take a minimum of 6 hours per school year from your degree plan. To be able to move from a Provisional Level I to Level II , all requirements specified on your plan of study must be completed in time for your fifth certificate.

5.  The certificate you apply for at the end of your fifth year will be your Provisional II certificate. The requirements include the occupational competency (24 hours), the T&I Basic courses, and the General Education or Professional Education hours necessary to total 48 hours of acceptable coursework. When applying for a Provisional II, complete:

o       the teaching certificate application

o       compile all transcripts indicating completion of at least 48 hours as

specified by your plan of study

o       attach a $10 check made out to the Oklahoma State Department of

            Education

o       secure a new plan of study from your university representative

o       and mail all to your university representative (each change in certificate level

requires a university representative’s check of transcripts).

Again, it is a good idea to complete the paperwork between April 15 and May 31 to beat any June 30th deadline difficulties.  Of course it is permissible to file for Provisional II before the end of your fifth year of teaching, if you complete the requirements in advance.

6.    File for Provisional II certificate renewal every five years. Ensure that you have
completed a minimum of 15 hours toward your degree requirements as established
on your updated Plan of Study.

7.    Continue to file for Provisional II certificate renewals until you graduate and are
ready for your Standard certification. At that time, compile all documents and mail
them to your university representative for final transcript checks and approval.
