Trade and Industrial Education Certification Policies

1.      Submit a “Statement of Qualifications” (Form 8) to the Technology Education/Trade and Industrial Education (TE/TI) Division of the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education, 1500 West Seventh Avenue, Stillwater, OK 74074-4364. The Form 8, which may be accessed at www.okcareertech.org/ti/form8/form_8.doc, must be on file with the TE/TI division before the application can be processed.

2.      Submit an Application for Provisional Level I Certification with a check in the amount of $30.00, made payable to the Oklahoma State Department of Education, to the TE/TI Division, Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education, 1500 West Seventh Avenue, Stillwater, OK 74074-4364. The applicant for this certificate must have earned a high school diploma or passed the G.E.D.  The application must be accompanied by official college transcripts, if the individual has attended college, and a Plan-of-Study from an institution of higher education authorized to offer a degree in Trade and Industrial Education.

3.       The applicant shall provide evidence of obtaining a minimum of three (3) years of related experience in the field of study.  Experience must be within the five (5) years preceding initial certification.

4.      All applicants must submit to an FBI fingerprint check and an OSBI background check – fee is $41.00 – casher’s check or money order ONLY made out to the OSBI.  Fingerprint packets are available from the Oklahoma State Department of Education, Professional Standards Division – Room 211, 2500 North Lincoln Boulevard, Oklahoma City, OK 73105-4599.

5.      The issuance of the certificate must be requested by the employing superintendent.

6.      The Provisional I Certificate is good for a period of one-year - July 1 to June 30.  The applicant must also receive recommendation from the State Program Manager, as well as a statement from an institution approved to offer a Standard Certificate in Trade and Industrial Education.

7.      To have the Provisional I Certificate reissued, the holder must, during the life of the first certificate, pass an occupational competency examination approved by the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education.

8.      Provisional Level I Certificates may be successively reissued upon satisfactory completion of not less than six (6) semester hours of credit from the individual’s degree plan toward standard certification, including the basic Trade and Industrial Education courses.

9.      Upon completion of 48 hours from the individuals degree plan they may apply for a Provisional Level II certificate which is good for five years.  During the life of this certificate the individual must complete 15 hours of college coursework from their degree plan.  Application for the initial Provisional Level II certificate requires that the degree granting university sign-off on the section titled “PART II - RECOMMENDATION FROM THE DIRECTOR OF TEACHER EDUCATION.”  This section must also be filled out and signed when the individual moves from the Provisional Level II certificate to the Standard certificate.


DEGREED APPLICANTS
:

 

    1.    A “Statement of Qualifications” (Form 8) must be on file in the Technology Education/Trade and Industrial  Education Office.

     2.    Follow the same procedures listed above with Level I Provisional Certification.

     3.    Applicant would need to complete only Basic 15 hours of Trade and Industrial Education course work and any required education/teaching classes required for the Standard certificate.
