Induction Checklist for All Participants

July

Administrator will:

(For New Teacher(s) Only)

  • (For Prospective T&I and BITE Teachers) Ensure completion of the Statement of Qualifications (Form 8 ).
  • (For Prospective Health Teachers) Ensure completion of the Faculty Record Form from any prospective Health teacher to verify qualifications and send to Health Occupations Division, ODCTE.
  • Hire new teacher.
  • Contact appropriate ODCTE division to have New Teacher Academy invitation letter sent to teacher.
  • Ensure teacher has contacted university to develop required plan of study.
  • Ensure application has been made by teacher for teacher certificate/license.
  • Ensure registration of new teacher for CareerTech Summer Conference.
  • Acquaint mentor and new teacher with each other with the intent of the mentor assisting the new teacher at Summer Conference.

 

(For New and Experienced Teachers)

  • Assign an instructional mentor to the teacher to serve on the Teacher Induction committee.
  • Complete Form 002 of the SDE Resident Teacher Packet and send to State Department of Education.
  • Complete Teacher Induction Participation Form and Contact Form, and send to Joe Robinson, ODCTE.
  • Conduct mentor orientation and training sessions for all local mentors to review local school mentor process and coaching skills.

 

Mentor will:

(For New Teacher(s) Only)

  • Meet new teacher and offer assistance as a Summer Conference host.

(For New and Experienced Teachers)

  • Participate in mentor orientation and training sessions for all local mentors to review local school mentor process and coaching skills.

 

Teacher will:

(New Teacher (s) Only)

  • (For T&I) Ensure the Completion of Statement of Qualifications (Form 8 ). verifying three years of full-time experience within the last five years.
  • (For Health) Complete the Faculty Record Form to verify qualifications.
  • Complete hiring forms and processes at the local school.
  • Attend New Teacher Academy. Contact university representative to develop your required plan of study.
  • Complete application for teacher certificate/license.
  • Complete registration for Summer Conference.

 

August

Administrator will:

  • Contact appropriate teacher education representative and schedule an initial Residency/Induction meeting with all committee members.
  • Ensure that the initial orientation meeting of your teacher and instructional mentor has taken place.
  • Ensure mentor and teacher have access to the Content Expert List provided by the occupational division for the teacher.

Mentor will:

  • Participate in an initial mentor orientation-training meeting conducted by the instructional leader at your local school.
  • Participate in the teacher/mentor orientation meeting at your local school.
  • Facilitate the first meeting/visit with assigned teacher at earliest opportunity.
  • Access the Content Expert List provided by the occupational division for the teacher.

 

Teacher will:

  • Attend Summer Conference.
  • Participate in an initial orientation meeting with your instructional mentor, instructional leader/administrator, and teacher educator (if appropriate).
  • Participate in the first meeting/visit with assigned mentor at earliest opportunity.
  • Review the Content Expert List provided by the occupational division for the teacher.

 

September

Administrator will:

  • Facilitate the scheduled meeting of the Residency/ Teacher Induction committee to establish a Teacher Induction Plan based upon the perceived needs by the teacher and the committee.
  • If desired, contact the appropriate division program administrator/specialist for the name of a Technical Content Mentor to provide local technical content assistance.
  • Provide at least three observations as a Residency/Induction committee member between September and March.

 

Mentor will:

  • Participate in the scheduled meeting for the Residency/Teacher Induction committee to establish a Teacher Induction Plan based upon the perceived needs by the teacher and the committee.
  • Provide at least three observations as a Residency/Teacher Induction committee member between September and March.

 

Teacher will:

  • Participate in the scheduled meeting for the Residency/Teacher Induction committee to establish a Teacher Induction Plan based upon the perceived needs and desired focus.
  • Expect at least three observations for your Residency/Teacher Induction committee members to assist you in identifying areas of strengths and for technical assistance and teaching focus.

 

October-December

Administrator will:

  • Facilitate the second scheduled meeting of the Residency/Teacher Induction committee to review the Teacher Induction Plan based upon the perceived needs by the teacher and the committee.
  • Ensure and support ongoing communications, visits, and observations for teacher educator and instructional mentor.

 

Mentor will:

  • Participate in the second scheduled meeting of the Residency/Teacher Induction committee to review the Teacher Induction Plan based upon the perceived needs by the teacher and the committee.
  • Continue ongoing communications, visits, and observations guiding the teacher towards strategies to prove effective teacher competency.

 

Teacher will:

  • Participate in the second scheduled meeting of the Residency/ Teacher Induction committee to review the Teacher Induction Plan based upon the perceived needs by the teacher and the committee.
  • Secure, support, and maintain ongoing communications, visits, and observations from teacher educator and instructional mentor.

 

January

Administrator will:

  • Ensure new teacher’s attendance at the Teacher Induction Follow-Up Workshop at University of Central Oklahoma, Edmond, to complete the college credit requirement.

 

Mentor will:

  • Ensure new teacher’s attendance of the Intercession Class to be held at UCO as a follow-up to Teacher Induction experience to complete the college credit requirements.

 

Teacher will:

  • Attend the Teacher Induction Workshop Follow-Up session to complete college credit requirement.

 

February-March

Administrator will:

  • Ensure and support ongoing communications, visits, and observations from teacher educator and instructional mentor.

·       Contact appropriate teacher education representative and schedule a final Residency/Induction meeting with all committee members.

 

Mentor will:

  • Continue ongoing communications, visits, and observations to help guide teacher towards effective teacher competencies identified within the Teacher Induction Plan.

 

Teacher will:

  • Secure support and maintain ongoing communications, visits, and observations from teacher educator, instructional mentor, and instructional leader.

 

April-May

Administrator will:

  • Facilitate the final scheduled meeting of the Residency/Teacher Induction committee to review certificate renewal and need for additional technical assistance for the second year.
  • Complete Form 003 of the SDE Resident Teacher Packet and send to the State Department of Education.

 

Mentor will:

  • Participate in the final scheduled meeting of the Residency/Teacher Induction committee to review certificate renewal and identify needs for more technical assistance for the second year.

 

Teacher will:

  • Participate in the final scheduled meeting of the Residency/Teacher Induction committee to review your certificate renewal and identify needs for more technical assistance within your second year.
  • Enroll in appropriate coursework based upon your plan of study for certification needs.
  • Complete all certification renewal applications and mail to ODCTE (front page of 003, certificate application, NOCTI copy and/or transcript, and a $10 check).
