3 Team Meetings Minimum. First meeting conducted ASAP
with planned completion by September 15th. Certification and coursework requirements
are discussed and aligned with the needs of the teacher. Because the Induction process is a
competency-based instructional program, assignments may be banked toward UCO
and OSU coursework requirements when evidence of competency attainment is
shown. These assignments may be applied
towards the requirements expected within the basic 15 certification
courses. Attending the New Teacher
Institute could also result in banked credit towards course requirements. First Team Meeting Focus is on setting goals and
developing a customized instructional plan based upon assessment of needs and
concerns of the teacher. Teacher educator observes and meets with teacher to
initiate the development of the Teacher Induction Plan. (The assessment process to develop the
Induction plan begins at the New Teacher Institute.) Responsibilities of the
team members are thoroughly discussed.
Team members are provided extensive mentor training, checklists, and
resources to assist them in their coaching and instructional roles. On-going observations, frequent contacts (email/telephone),
and work sessions are conducted by the committee members with the intent of
providing more coaching, instruction, and resources based upon the needs of
the teacher and Induction Plan. The
Induction Plan can be modified on an as- needed basis. Options are provided to the teacher to access a content
mentor within his/her discipline and to visit successful programs within the
local school and/or state based upon the needs of the teacher and the
recommendation of the team. Purpose teacher retention and
