Induction Process:

Each teacher will complete a needs assessment based on the 13 duties of the Master Teacher.  These tasks have been validated and cross-walked by master teachers in Oklahoma to the Criteria for Effective Teaching and to the latest reform studies in education, such as School-to-Work, High Schools That Work, National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, and ISTE Foundation Standards in Technology.

A team of the new teacher, a local administrator, a local site mentor, and the higher education representative will write an "Individualized Professional Development Plan" or induction plan.  This plan will allow for "banking" of competencies for current and future college coursework.

The courses needed for certification, the Basic 15, will be completed first so that the new teacher can maintain provisional certification.  Every effort will be made to customize and individualize course assignments to best meet the professional development needs of the new teacher.

At the beginning of the Basic 15, students will begin compiling a portfolio for documentation of course competencies.  The beginning T & I teacher can then model for the students in their program the construction, maintenance, and use of a portfolio in the workplace.

The Method of Delivery:

The faculty has determined to offer the Basic 15 using a combination of delivery systems:

·        Possible use of long distance technologies received at local technology centers across the state.

·        3-4 class meetings a semester (by decision of the instructor) at locations most conducive to the majority of the students.

Students will learn how to access and effectively use Blackboard.com and E-Board and other web-based resources.
