High School Competitive Events

1. Agriculture and Biotechnology Design · Display may not exceed 15" deep x 3' wide x 3' high. · Entries must be started and completed during the current school year. · No finalist presentations will be given at State Conference. · Eligibility: Entries are limited to one team of two. 2. Animatronics · Eligibility: Entries are limited to two students per chapter. · No finalist presentation.
3.
Architectural Model—(See design building specifications in CRG 2008-2009) · The challenge in 2008 is to design a single family residential home for a family of six (6) that includes a set of aging grandparents, following the principles and guidelines established for the development of affordable housing in America.

A portfolio (standard 1” three-ring binder) must be
submitted with the model and have the chapter/contestant name on the back.

Maximum size of site board is 24” square.

Finalists will be interviewed with their model

4.
Career Connection - OKLAHOMA CONTEST ONLY
·
Participants turn in a portfolio containing a written report
based on their experience, and completed job-shadowing forms based on the
business shadowed.

Eligibility: Entries are limited to three students per
chapter 5. Career Comparison · Choose one (1) of the following technology-related career areas and research three (3) careers within that are.
- Biotechnology · Participants turn in their notebook that contains the chosen technology related career area, the three different careers in the given area, and the prepared resume and cover letter for the chosen careers. · Fill out application on site (bring blue/black ink pen) · Top 10 finalist will be interviewed · Eligibility: Entries are limited to three students per chapter.
6.
Chapter Team

Chapter Teams will take a team test and the top ten teams
will advance to the finals.

be elected officers of the local TSA chapter. 7. CAD, Architectural 2D · Participants bring hardware, software, and equipment for the event. A hardware profile form for each student will not be necessary. · At state students may compete in both 2D and 3D CAD, however if you place and are eligible for nationals you will need to choose one.
8. CAD, Architectural 3D · Participants bring hardware, software, and equipment for the event. A hardware profile form for each student will not be necessary.

Construction Systems

Cyberspace Pursuit
·
No finalist interviews will be conducted in 2008 · The event design brief for the contest can be found on National TSA’s homepage: www.tsaweb.org · The Universal Resource Locator (URL) for the Technology Education Program’s website must be e-mailed to kterr@okcareertech.org by midnight on March 17, 2008. The subject line of the email must be: Cyberspace Pursuit.

Desktop Publishing
·
Participants must check in their portfolio of materials at
the time specified in the conference program.
·
All portfolio papers are developed on 8 ½” x 11” paper. · Participants are not required to bring hardware/software in 2008.
·
No
on-site problem will be assigned for the 2008 state conference.
·
Eligibility: Entries are limited
to two students per chapter.
14.
Dragster Design
·
The completed dragster (car) and two CO2 cartridges are
submitted at the assigned time.
·
Metric drawing of dragster–no larger than B size - drawing
must accompany dragster upon check-in.
·
Note: See the High School Competitive Events Guide, 2007-2008
edition, for the dragster specific regulations.
·
Eligibility: Entries are limited to three students per
chapter.
15.
Electronic Research and Experimentation
·
Each entry is allotted an area 3’ wide by 15" deep and must be
displayed and demonstrated within that area.
·
The
entry must have been built within the past school year.
·
The
entry must be an individual project.
·
Any
special set-up and/or equipment including extension cords, required for
the project entry are the responsibility of the participant.
· Finalists will be asked to describe their project and demonstrate its use during an oral interview.

Engineering Design · Entries must be started and completed during the current school year · No finalists presentations will be given at State Conference. · Eligibility: Entries are limited to one team of three to five per chapter.
17.
Extemporaneous Presentation
·
Pencil, Reference material, and 3” x 5” index cards.

Eligibility: Entries are limited to three students per
chapter 18. Film
·
A video and a 8 ½ x 11 portfolio will be turned to the
event coordinators.

Eligibility: Entries are limited to one team of three per chapter.
19.
Flight Endurance
·
A portfolio (a standard 1” three-ring binder) must include
a flight log and a written report.
·
The rubber powered model aircraft will be built, test flown
before the conference, and checked in at the specified time at the
conference.
·
The aircraft and its parts must be contained in a box
that does not exceed 25cm x 40cm x 60cm.
·

20.
Imaging Technology
·
Participants are to utilize a simple flat 3' x 3' static board to
display and submit their photographic prints for judging.
·
All static displays (Stage One) must be checked-in at the
specified time. Stage two,
three, and four will be implemented in future conferences.
·
The
theme for 2008 is “Technically Speaking” · NOTE: There will be no finalists posting and there will be no on-site problem. · CONSENT FORM REQUIRED FOR ALL PRINTS/IMAGES.

Eligibility: Entries are limited to two students per
chapter. 21. Manufacturing Prototype · The theme for 2008 is "an original action figure that has a TSA theme".
· Eligibility: Entries are limited to three students per chapter 22. Medical Technology · Entries must be started and completed during the current school year · No finalist presentation will be given at State Conference. · Eligibility: Entries are limited to one team of two students per chapter.
24.
Oklahoma T-Shirt Design - Oklahoma
Contest Only

T-Shirt design, checked in at appropriate time

This event is combined - MS & HS
·
Oklahoma TSA will edit and produce the final design
for the National T-Shirt.
·
Eligibility: Entries are limited to one student per chapter.
25.
Prepared Presentation
·
Participants
must include the use of audio and visual support materials in their
presentation and are responsible
for providing projection equipment/material at the state conference.
·
The
theme for the 2008 conference is “TSA: Imagine It!"
·
Eligibility: Entries are limited to three students per
chapter.
26.
Promotional Graphics · In 2008, You must include the theme of the 2009 conference, which is “Shape the Future.” The 2008 National Conference will be held in Denver, CO.
·
A color printout of the design must be submitted.
·
A disk will not be required. · The design must be presented vertically on a 8.5” x 11 in a plastic sleeve (see national rules). · CONSENT FORM REQUIRED FOR ALL IMAGES.
·
Eligibility: Entries are limited to two students per
chapter. 27. Radio Control Transportation · Eligibility: Entries are limited to one team of two per chapter. 28. SciViz · We will not hold this competition at the state conference level.
29.
Structural Engineering
·
The
bridge will be checked in at the appropriate time.
·
The span for the bridge for the 2008 conference will be
12” long
(therefore the bridge must be 14", (+ or - 1/4 inch)). · The bridge shall not have more than 20’ of 3/32” X 3/32” of basswood · The bridge shall be glued using cyanoacrylate (CA) glue only. For more specifics on glue please refer to the Competitive Event Guide.

· The 3 X3 X 1/4" load platform should be centered and glued to the structure with a 1/2" hole bored in the center. · Any structure that does not hold 45 pounds will not be listed among the finals.

30.
System Control Technology
·
Pencil and writing paper · Due to the participation and success of the system control competition last year, we will use the same process to compete again in 2008. Instead of taking a test and posting finals, the event will be open to all that wish to participate. Everyone entering the event will still be required to test, however, that will be used as part of your final score only; not to determine the top ten finalist.

You may use any type of control system you wish, however, you must bring all of your own equipment with you to state. You will check in with the event coordinator on the morning of competition and sign in for a time to demonstrate your solution to the problem. We hope that this will increase participation in this event.

chapter. 37. Video Game Design · Eligibility: Entries are limited to two students per chapter. · The game segment must be turned in on a DVD. · No finalist presentation.

Senatorial or Presidential Degree 39. Tech Connect Carpentry
· The students are required to bring their own materials. 40. Tech Connect Welding
· The students are required to bring their own materials. Instructors with participants must provide one prize per entry.
·
Advisors
will conduct a screening and interview process on the local level.
The advisor will submit to our office all Leadership candidates.
The candidates will be awarded their respective degree at the state
conference.
