National Healthcare Foundation Skills Assessment/Certificate Program

National Health Care Foundation Skills Standards Student Eligibility and Test Content

The National Health Care Foundation Skills Standards Assessment and Certificate Program is an entry-level certification that verifies student mastery of the knowledge and skills that provide the foundation for all health careers.  The program contains two components:  a student portfolio and an online assessment.

 Student Portfolio

The local instructor assesses the student portfolio with a rubric provided by NCHSTE.  Portfolio criteria include:

  • Letter of Introduction
  • Resume
  • Healthcare Project
  • Writing Sample
  • Work-Based Learning
  • Oral Presentation (Speech)
  • Service Learning (Community Service)
  • Credentials
  • Technology
  • Leadership
  • Overall neatness, formatting, and appearance

 Students can satisfy most of the portfolio components by participating in Health Occupations Students of American leadership events and activities.   The student portfolio also documents student achievement in these National Health Care Foundation Skills Standards areas:  Academic Foundation, Technical Skills, and Information Technology Applications.

 Online Assessment

Students may take the National Health Care Foundation Skills Standards Assessment after successful completion of each portfolio criteria.  The online assessment includes these National Health Care Foundation Skills Standards:
